Journal ArticleDOI
The STARTEC Decision Support Tool for Better Tradeoffs between Food Safety, Quality, Nutrition, and Costs in Production of Advanced Ready-to-Eat Foods
Taran Skjerdal,Andras Gefferth,Miroslav Spajic,Edurne Gaston Estanga,Alessandra De Cesare,Silvia Vitali,Frederique Pasquali,Federica Bovo,Gerardo Manfreda,Rocco Mancusi,Marcello Trevisiani,Girum Tadesse Tessema,Tone Mathisen Fagereng,Lena Haugland Moen,Lars Lyshaug,Anastasios Koidis,Gonzalo Delgado-Pando,Alexandros Ch. Stratakos,Marco Boeri,Cecilie From,Hyat Syed,Mirko Muccioli,Roberto Mulazzani,Catherine Halbert +23 more
TL;DR: Compared to other decision support tools, the STARTEC-tool is product-specific and multidisciplinary and includes interpretation and targeted recommendations for end-users.
Journal ArticleDOI
Atmospheric cold plasma process for vegetable leaf decontamination: A feasibility study on radicchio (red chicory, Cichorium intybus L.)
Frederique Pasquali,Alexandros Ch. Stratakos,Anastasios Koidis,Annachiara Berardinelli,Chiara Cevoli,Luigi Ragni,Rocco Mancusi,Gerardo Manfreda,Marcello Trevisani +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of an atmospheric cold plasma apparatus (air DBD, 15kV) on the safety, antioxidant activity and quality of radicchio (red chicory, Cichorium intybus L) was investigated after 15 and 30min of treatment (in afterglow at 70mm from the discharge, at 22 °C and 60% of RH) and during storage Escherichia coli O157:H7 inoculated on radicichio leaves was significantly reduced after 15min cold plasma treatment (−135 log MPN/cm 2 )
Journal ArticleDOI
Sanitisation of fresh-cut celery and radicchio by gas plasma treatments in water medium
Annachiara Berardinelli,Frederique Pasquali,Chiara Cevoli,Marcello Trevisani,Luigi Ragni,Rocco Mancusi,Gerardo Manfreda +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the antimicrobial efficacy of dielectric barrier discharge atmospheric gas plasma (DBD) was tested against Listeria monocytogenes and shigatoxin-producing Escherichia coli serogroups O157 and O26.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of Shiga toxin (Stx)-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) in bovine dairy herds in Northern Italy
TL;DR: Concern arise for the presence of E. coli O157 isolates that are suspected to be an EHEC-derivative in the milk filters sampled in farms that are used to sell raw milk to consumers and in other dairy farms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enumeration of verocytotoxigenic Escherichia coli (VTEC) O157 and O26 in milk by quantitative PCR.
Rocco Mancusi,Marcello Trevisani +1 more
TL;DR: The qPCR method is less laborious and faster than the standard MPN method and has been shown to be a good technique for quantifying VTEC in milk.
