Journal ArticleDOI
Islet isolation assessment in man and large animals.
Camillo Ricordi,Camillo Ricordi,Derek W. R. Gray,Bernhard J. Hering,Dixon B. Kaufman,Garth L. Warnock,Norman M. Kneteman,S. P. Lake,Nicholas J.M. London,Carlo Socci,Rodolfo Alejandro,Y. Zeng,David W. Scharp,Giorgio Luciano Viviani,L. Falqui,Andreas G. Tzakis,Reinhard G. Bretzel,Konrad Federlin,Guido Pozza,Roger F.L. James,Ray V. Rajotte,Valerio Di Carlo,Peter J. Morris,David E.R. Sutherland,Thomas E. Starzl,Daniel H. Mintz,Paul E. Lacy +26 more
TL;DR: These general guidelines will be of assistance to standardize the assessment of islet isolations, making it possible to better interpret and compare procedures from different centers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interferon expression in the pancreases of patients with type I diabetes.
Xiaojian Huang,Jean Yuang,Audrey Goddard,Alan K. Foulis,Roger F.L. James,Åke Lernmark,Ricardo Pujol-Borrell,Alex Rabinovitch,Nuria Somoza,Timothy A. Stewart +9 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that, of the cytokines examined, only IFN-α was significantly increased in the diabetic patients, a result that is consistent with the possibility that this cytokine is directly involved in the development of type I diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Familial Persistent Hyperinsulinemic Hypoglycemia of Infancy and Mutations in the Sulfonylurea Receptor
Mark J. Dunne,Charlotte Kane,RM Shepherd,Jorge A. Sánchez,Roger F.L. James,Paul Johnson,Albert Aynsley-Green,Shan Lu,John P. Clement,Keith J. Lindley,Susumu Seino,Lydia Aguilar-Bryan +11 more
TL;DR: The disease most commonly presents with severe hypoglycemia a few hours after birth, although some cases present after several weeks or months, and some require partial pancreatectomy to control the hyperinsulinism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human islets of Langerhans express Fas ligand and undergo apoptosis in response to interleukin-1beta and Fas ligation.
TL;DR: The results suggest that human islet cells are primed to undergo apoptosis by interleukin-1beta and that this involves the close association between cell-surface Fas and its ligand.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gene expression profiles for the human pancreas and purified islets in Type 1 diabetes: new findings at clinical onset and in long-standing diabetes
Raquel Planas,Jorge Carrillo,Alex Sánchez,Alex Sánchez,M. C. Ruiz de Villa,F Nuñez,Joan Verdaguer,Roger F.L. James,Ricardo Pujol-Borrell,Marta Vives-Pi +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported whole genome transcript analysis validated by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and correlated with immunohistological observations for four Type 1 diabetes patients and for purified islets from two of them.
