Using laboratory robotics, high-throughput sequencing and sampling with volunteers for quick and cost-effective large-scale genetic estimates of brown bear population size – transboundary case study in slovenia
Tomaž Skrbinšek,Maja Jelenčič,Roman Luštrik,Marjeta Konec,Barbara Boljte,Rok Černe,Matej Bartol,Đuro Huber,Juraj Huber,Slaven Reljić,Pierre Taberlet,Christian Miquel,Stéphane Lobreaux,Ivan Kos,Marta De Barba +14 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Mapping range dynamics from opportunistic data: spatiotemporal modelling of the lynx distribution in the Alps over 21 years
Anja Molinari-Jobin,Marc Kéry,E. Marboutin,F. Marucco,Fridolin Zimmermann,P. Molinari,H. Frick,C. Fuxjäger,S. Wölfl,Florent Bled,Christine Breitenmoser-Würsten,Ivan Kos,M. Wölfl,Rok Černe,O. Müller,Urs Breitenmoser +15 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors modeled the distribution dynamics of lynx in the Alps (200,000 km2) during 1994-2014 at a resolution of 100 km2 and found that the presence of neighbouring quadrats had a strong positive effect on colonization and persistence rates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of ambiguous detections to improve estimates from species distribution models
Julie Louvrier,Anja Molinari-Jobin,Marc Kéry,Thierry Chambert,David Miller,Fridolin Zimmermann,Eric Marboutin,Paolo Molinari,Oliver Müeller,Rok Černe,Olivier Gimenez +10 more
TL;DR: It is found that ambiguous data should be considered when studying the distribution of large carnivores through the use of dynamic occupancy models that account for misidentification.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ecological correlates of large carnivore depredation on sheep in Europe
Vincenzo Gervasi,John D. C. Linnell,Tomaž Berce,Luigi Boitani,Rok Černe,Paolo Ciucci,Benjamin Cretois,Daniela Derron-Hilfiker,Christophe Duchamp,Adrienne Gastineau,Oksana Grente,Djuro Huber,Yorgos Iliopoulos,Alexandros A. Karamanlidis,Ilpo Kojola,Francesca Marucco,Yorgos Mertzanis,Peep Männil,Harri Norberg,Nives Pagon,Luca Pedrotti,Pierre-Yves Quenette,Slaven Reljić,Valeria Salvatori,Tõnu Talvi,Manuela von Arx,Olivier Gimenez +26 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors conducted an analysis of the impact by all four European large carnivores on sheep farming in 10 European countries, during the period 2010-2015, and found a positive relationship between wolf distribution and the number of compensated sheep.

Ecological and anthropogenic drivers of large carnivore depredation on sheep in Europe
Vincenzo Gervasi,John D. C. TL;DR: An analysis of the impact by all four European large carnivores on sheep husbandry in 10 European countries, during the period 2010-2015, found a positive relationship between wolf distribution and the number of compensated sheep, but not for the other three species.
