Journal ArticleDOI
Safety and efficacy of inhaled nebulised interferon beta-1a (SNG001) for treatment of SARS-CoV-2 infection: a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 2 trial.
Phillip Monk,Richard J Marsden,Victoria Tear,Jody Brookes,Toby N Batten,Marcin Mankowski,Felicity J Gabbay,Donna E. Davies,Stephen T. Holgate,Stephen T. Holgate,Ling-Pei Ho,Tristan W Clark,Ratko Djukanovic,Tom Wilkinson,Michael G. Crooks,Davinder Dosanjh,Salman Siddiqui,Najib M. Rahman,Jacklyn A Smith,Alex Horsley,Tim Harrison,Dinesh Saralaya,Lorcan McGarvey,Alastair Watson,Edmund Foster,Adam Fleet,Dave Singh,Sophie Hemmings,Sandra Aitken,Sarah Dudley,Rona Beegan,Angela Thompson,Pedro Mb Rodrigues +32 more
TL;DR: Patients who received SNG001 had greater odds of improvement and recovered more rapidly from SARS-CoV-2 infection than patients who received placebo, providing a strong rationale for further trials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Experimental rhinovirus 16 infection in moderate asthmatics on inhaled corticosteroids
Peter Adura,Eleanor Reed,Jonathan Macintyre,Ajerico del Rosario,James Roberts,Rachel Pestridge,Rona Beegan,Christine B. Boxall,Chang Xiao,Tatiana Kebadze,Juliya Aniscenko,Victoria Cornelius,James E. Gern,Phillip Monk,Sebastian L. Johnston,Ratko Djukanovic +15 more
TL;DR: A validated infection protocol is modified to inoculate 11 subjects whose asthma was well controlled with ICS and used RV16, a strain used safely in previous studies, which replicates in vitro to a similar extent but induces less inflammation and cell death than other strains.
Journal Article
Effect of inhaled SNG001 (interferon-beta 1a) on sputum and blood antiviral biomarkers following a respiratory virus infection in asthmatic subjects
Christine B. Boxall,Sarah Dudley,Rona Beegan,Victoria Tear,Sarah Hrebien,Kerry Lunn,Phillip Monk +6 more
TL;DR: Sputum and blood antiviral biomarkers were upregulated in response to an RVI suggesting that SNG001 treatment had boosted antiviral responses.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Antiviral biomarkers are upregulated in sputum cells following administration of inhaled interferon beta to COPD patients
TL;DR: Antiviral biomarkers were significantly upregulated in the lungs of COPD patients following the administration of inhaled IFN-β, supporting the proposed mechanism-of-action as a treatment for virus-induced exacerbations.
