Synthesis and applications of MOF-derived porous nanostructures

In this paper, we will present the current status of radio astronomical research and outreach in Malaysia. We will also present a short history of our research group, which is currently the only radio astronomical facility in Malaysia. Our group is called the Radio Cosmology Research Lab and was established in 2005 by Dr Zamri Zainal Abidin and Prof Dr Zainol Abidin Ibrahim. We will discuss the future plans for this group including our keen interest in being part of a more global network of radio astronomers. We are already an active member of the South-East Asia Astronomy Network (SEAAN) and aims to have a radio astronomical facility in order to join the Global Very Long Baseline Interferometer (VLBI) as well becoming a research hub for the future Square Kilometer Array (SKA) project. We will also present some of the scientific goals of our group including providing a platform for radio astronomers to be able to do observations of weak and high red-shifted radio objects such as galaxy clusters and supernovae.

Influence Factors of Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) for Solar Radio Astronomy Purpose at National Space Centre, Malaysia

There is a need for managing and displaying drug addiction phenomena and trend at both spatial and temporal scales. Spatial and temporal assessment on drug addiction in Terengganu was undertaken to understand the geographical area of district in the same cluster, in addition, identify the hot spot area of this problem and analysis the trend of drug addiction. Data used were topography map of Terengganu and number of drug addicted person in Terengganu by district within 10 years (2004-2013). Number of drug addicted person by district were mapped using Geographic Information system and analysed using a combination of multivariate analysis which is cluster analysis were applied to the database in order to validate the correlation between data in the same cluster. Result showed a cluster analysis for number of drug addiction by district generated three clusters which are Besut and Kuala Terengganu in cluster 1 named moderate drug addicted person (MDA), Dungun, Marang, Setiu and Hulu Terengganu in cluster 2 named lower drug addicted person (LDA) and Kemaman in cluster 3 named high drug addicted person(HDA). This analysis indicates that cluster 3 which is Kemaman is a hot spot area. These results were beneficial for stakeholder to monitor and manage this problem especially in the hot spot area which needs to be emphasized.

Spatial and temporal assessment on drug addiction using multivariate analysis and GIS

Geographical information system (GIS) techniques and Remote Sensing (RS) data are fundamental in the study of land use (LU) and land cover (LC) changes and classification. The aim of this study is to map and classify the LU and LC change of Lake Kenyir Basin within 40 years’ period (1976 to 2016). Multi-temporal Landsat images used are MSS 1976, 1989, ETM+ 2001 and OLI 8 2016. Supervised Classification on Maximum Likelihood Algorithm method was used in ArcGIS 10.3. The result shows three classes of LU and LC via vegetation, water body and built up area. Vegetation, which is the dominant LC found to be 100%, 88.83%, 86.15%, 81.91% in 1976, 1989, 2001 and 2016 respectively. While water body accounts for 0%, 11.17%, 12.36% and 13.62% in the years 1976, 1989, 2001 and 2016 respectively and built-up area 1.49% and 4.47 in 2001 and 2016 respectively. The predominant LC changes in the study are the water body and vegetation, the earlier increasing rapidly at the expense of the later. Therefore, proper monitoring, policies that integrate conservation of the environment are strongly recommended.

Classification of land use/land cover changes using GIS and remote sensing technique in Lake Kenyir Basin, Terengganu, Malaysia

River plan change is one of the river geomorphology change process. This study focuses on the processes of the river plan change using geographic information system (GIS), remote sensing, and water quality analysis using water quality index (WQI) parameters. Multiple linear regression (MLR) method was used to observe the relationship between river plan change and WQI. Spatial model method was applied along the mainstream of Terengganu River Basin, using GIS to further justify the impact of river plan change on water quality status. The results obtained shows that the Terengganu River Basin has been going through certain river plan changes due to increase and decrease of the river plan criteria. Based on WQI analysis, the classification of water quality is under class III. Based on MLR, there are strong relationships between dissolved oxygen and river plan change which has value of R2 0.995, total suspended solids (TSS) with R2 0.764, and WQI with R2 0.928 during wet season, whereas during dry season, TSS and WQI showed the strong linear relationship with R2 of 0.997 and 0.985, respectively. This study will appropriately act as an aid of the local enforcement to determine the problems of the river management.
