Markku Kulmala,Jenni Kontkanen,Heikki Junninen,Katrianne Lehtipalo,Hanna E. Manninen,Tuomo Nieminen,Tuomo Nieminen,Tuukka Petäjä,Mikko Sipilä,Siegfried Schobesberger,Pekka Rantala,Alessandro Franchin,Tuija Jokinen,Emma Järvinen,Mikko Äijälä,Juha Kangasluoma,Jani Hakala,P. P. Aalto,Pauli Paasonen,Jyri Mikkilä,Joonas Vanhanen,Juho Aalto,Hannele Hakola,Ulla Makkonen,Taina Ruuskanen,Roy L. Mauldin,Roy L. Mauldin,Jonathan Duplissy,Hanna Vehkamäki,Jaana Bäck,Aki Kortelainen,Ilona Riipinen,Theo Kurtén,Murray V. Johnston,James N. Smith,James N. Smith,Mikael Ehn,Mikael Ehn,Thomas F. Mentel,Kari E. J. Lehtinen,Kari E. J. Lehtinen,Ari Laaksonen,Ari Laaksonen,Veli-Matti Kerminen,Douglas R. Worsnop +44 more
TL;DR: Three separate size regimes below 2-nm diameter are identified that build up a physically, chemically, and dynamically consistent framework on atmospheric nucleation—more specifically, aerosol formation via neutral pathways.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Role of Sulfuric Acid in Atmospheric Nucleation
Mikko Sipilä,Mikko Sipilä,Torsten Berndt,Tuukka Petäjä,David Brus,David Brus,Joonas Vanhanen,Frank Stratmann,Johanna Patokoski,Roy L. Mauldin,Antti-Pekka Hyvärinen,Heikki Lihavainen,Markku Kulmala,Markku Kulmala +13 more
TL;DR: Measurements of new particles observed immediately after their formation at atmospherically relevant sulfuric acid concentrations suggest that freshly formed particles contain one to two sulfuric Acid molecules, a number consistent with assumptions that are based on atmospheric observations.
Journal ArticleDOI
A new atmospherically relevant oxidant of sulphur dioxide
Roy L. Mauldin,Roy L. Mauldin,Roy L. Mauldin,Torsten Berndt,Mikko Sipilä,Mikko Sipilä,Mikko Sipilä,Pauli Paasonen,Tuukka Petäjä,S. Kim,Theo Kurtén,Frank Stratmann,V.-M. Kerminen,Markku Kulmala +13 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that this new atmospherically relevant oxidation route is important relative to oxidation by the hydroxyl radical, at least at moderate concentrations of that radical.
Journal ArticleDOI
Atmospheric sulphuric acid and neutral cluster measurements using CI-APi-TOF
Tuija Jokinen,Mikko Sipilä,Heikki Junninen,Mikael Ehn,Gustaf Lönn,Jani Hakala,Tuukka Petäjä,Roy L. Mauldin,Roy L. Mauldin,Markku Kulmala,D. R. Worsnop +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the first ambient measurements using nitrate ion based Chemical Ionization with the Atmospheric Pressure interface Time-Of-Flight mass spectrometer (CI-APi-TOF) for sulphuric acid and neutral cluster detection are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sulfuric acid and OH concentrations in a boreal forest site
Tuukka Petäjä,Tuukka Petäjä,Roy L. Mauldin,E. Kosciuch,J. McGrath,J. McGrath,Tuomo Nieminen,Pauli Paasonen,Michael Boy,Alexey Adamov,Tapio Kotiaho,Markku Kulmala +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the gas-phase sulfuric acid and ozone concentration were measured in Hyytiala, SMEAR II station, Southern Finland during 24 March to 28 June 2007.
