Journal ArticleDOI

Gigantic jets between a thundercloud and the ionosphere.

TL;DR: Observations of five gigantic jets that establish a direct link between a thundercloud and the ionosphere at 90 km elevation indicate that the extremely-low-frequency waves were generated by negative cloud-to-ionosphere discharges, which would reduce the electrical potential between ionosphere and ground.
Journal ArticleDOI

Global survey of upper atmospheric transient luminous events on the ROCSAT-2 satellite

TL;DR: In this paper, an intensified CCD imager, a six-channel spectrophotometer, and two array photometers are mounted on a common platform and boresighted in the same direction.
Journal ArticleDOI

D region ionization by lightning-induced electromagnetic pulses

TL;DR: In this article, the Imager of Sprites and Upper Atmospheric Lightning (ISUAL) instrument on FORMOSAT-2 was used to observe tropospheric lightning in the 80-90 km region above the lightning.
Journal ArticleDOI

Electric fields and electron energies inferred from the ISUAL recorded sprites

TL;DR: In this article, the average and characteristic electron energies were found to be in the range of 6.2-9.2 eV and 4.5-6.5 eV, respectively, for five selected events, which were recorded by the ISUAL (Imager of Sprites and Upper Atmospheric Lightning; a payload on the FORMOSAT-2 satellite).
