Journal ArticleDOI

A Variable 23S rDNA Region is a Useful Discriminating Target for Genus-Specific and Species-Specific PCR Amplification in Arcobacter Species

TL;DR: In this paper, a genus-specific PCR assay was created for the detection of all Arcobacter strains and three speciesspecific PCR assays were developed for the discrimination among A. cryaerophilus, A. butzleri and A. skirrowii.
Journal ArticleDOI

The gene coding for small ribosomal subunit RNA in the basidiomycete Ustilago maydis contains a group I intron.

TL;DR: A secondary structure model was designed and shows that the internal guide sequence pairing with the intron boundaries fits between two helices of the small subunit rRNA, and that minimal rearrangement of base pairs suffices to achieve the definitive secondary structure of the 18S rRNA upon splicing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phylogenetic Relationships among Ascomycetes and Ascomycete-like Yeasts as Deduced from Small Ribosomal Subunit RNA Sequences

TL;DR: The primary structure of the small ribosomal subunit RNA (srRNA) molecule of the type strains of the ascosporogenous yeasts Debaryomcyes hansenii, Pichia anomala, Schizosaccharomyces pombe, ZygosacCharomyces rouxii and Dekkera bruxellensis was determined and an evolutionary tree was inferred.
Journal ArticleDOI

Details of gastropod phylogeny inferred from 18S rRNA sequences.

TL;DR: The present study provides new molecular evidence for the monophyly of both Caenogastropoda and Euthyneura (Pulmonata and Opisthobranchia), making Prosobranchia paraphyletic, and suggests that Systellommatophora are not a monophyletic unit.
Journal ArticleDOI

The nucieotide sequences of the 5S rRNAs of four mushrooms and their use in studying the pnytogenetk position of bastdiomycetes among the eukaryotes

TL;DR: A clustering method was used to reconstruct an evolutionary tree from 82 eukaryotic 5 S RNA sequences and reveals that the fungal kingdom is highly polyphyletic.
