Journal ArticleDOI

Performance comparison of benchtop high-throughput sequencing platforms

TL;DR: The performance of these instruments were compared by sequencing an isolate of Escherichia coli O104:H4, which caused an outbreak of food poisoning in Germany in 2011, and the MiSeq had the highest throughput per run and lowest error rates.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biochemical and chemical studies on strains designated Prevotella intermedia and proposal of a new pigmented species, Prevotella nigrescens sp. nov.

TL;DR: It is proposed that a new species, Prevotella nigrescens, should be created for the genetically distinct group of strains that hybridized with strain ATCC 33563T, which is designated the type strain of P. Nigrescens.
Journal ArticleDOI

The use of a 16S rDNA directed PCR for the detection of endodontopathogenic Bacteria

TL;DR: The study evaluates a 16S rDNA directed polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect and differentiate bacteria in necrotic root canal samples to focus on species that are fastidious concerning culture or are difficult to differentiate after culturing by biochemical methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens isolates from periodontic and endodontic infections.

TL;DR: The results show that P. intermedia and P. nigrescens may have different site specificities and surface properties and thus emphasize the need for accurate identification of these two species for the evaluation of their role in the pathogenesis of oral infections.
