Living with Genome Instability: the Adaptation of Phytoplasmas to Diverse Environments of Their Insect and Plant Hosts

TL;DR: In this paper, the 706,569-bp chromosome and four plasmids of the aster yellows phytoplasma strain witches' broom (AY-WB) were sequenced and compared to the onion yellows polygonal strain M (OY-M) genome, showing that the repeated DNAs are organized into large clusters of potential mobile units (PMUs), which contain tra5 insertion sequences (ISs) and genes for specialized sigma factors and membrane proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Field Control of Bacterial Spot and Bacterial Speck of Tomato Using a Plant Activator.

TL;DR: Tomato yield was not affected by using the plant activator in the field when complemented with fungicides to manage foliar fungal diseases, but tomato transplant dry weight was negatively impacted and population densities on greenhouse-grown tomato transplants were reduced by acibenzolar-S-methyl treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Systemic Modulation of Gene Expression in Tomato by Trichoderma hamatum 382

TL;DR: This work showed that T. hamatum 382 actively induces systemic changes in plant physiology and disease resistance through systemic modulation of the expression of stress and metabolism genes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Plant disease diagnostic capabilities and networks

TL;DR: Plant disease diagnostic networks have developed worldwide to address the problems of efficient and effective disease diagnosis and pathogen detection, engendering cooperation of institutions and experts within countries and across national borders.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of Compost Amendments on Disease Severity and Yield of Tomato in Conventional and Organic Production Systems.

TL;DR: The plant activator Actigard reduced foliar disease severity and the incidence of bacterial spot and anthracnose on fruit, while increasing yield of marketable fruit in organic and conventional processing tomato production systems.
