Journal ArticleDOI
Common Variants in 40 Genes Assessed for Diabetes Incidence and Response to Metformin and Lifestyle Intervention in the Diabetes Prevention Program
Kathleen A. Jablonski,Jarred B. McAteer,Paul I.W. de Bakker,Paul W. Franks,Toni I. Pollin,Robert L. Hanson,Richa Saxena,Sarah E. Fowler,Alan R. Shuldiner,William C. Knowler,David Altshuler,Jose C. Florez +11 more
TL;DR: Potential genetic determinants of metformin response are identified and are consistent with experiment-wide 33% false discovery rates.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Influence of Age on the Effects of Lifestyle Modification and Metformin in Prevention of Diabetes
Jill P. Crandall,David Schade,Yong Ma,Wilfred Y. Fujimoto,Elizabeth Barrett-Connor,Sarah E. Fowler,Sam Dagogo-Jack,Reubin Andres +7 more
TL;DR: Lifestyle modification was exceptionally effective in preventing diabetes in older individuals; this finding was largely explained by greater weight loss and physical activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Randomized Comparison of Transcervical and Transabdominal Chorionic-Villus Sampling
L. Jackson,Julia Zachary,Sarah E. Fowler,Robert J. Desnick,M S Golbus,David H. Ledbetter,Maurice J. Mahoney,Eugene Pergament,J. Simpson,Black S +9 more
TL;DR: Transabdominal and transcervical chorionic-villus sampling appear to be equally safe procedures for first-trimester diagnosis of fetal abnormalities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term effects of the Diabetes Prevention Program interventions on cardiovascular risk factors: a report from the DPP Outcomes Study.
Trevor J. Orchard,Marinella Temprosa,Elizabeth Barrett-Connor,Sarah E. Fowler,Ronald B. Goldberg,Kieren J. Mather,Santica M. Marcovina,Maria G. Montez,Robert E. Ratner,Christopher D. Saudek,H. Sherif,Karol E. Watson +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the long-term differences in cardiovascular disease risk factors and the use of lipid and blood pressure medications by the original Diabetes Prevention Program intervention group were determined, with no between-group differences.
Journal ArticleDOI
Randomised comparison of amniocentesis and transabdominal and transcervical chorionic villus sampling.
TL;DR: It is found that TA CVS allows better access to the placental site than TC sampling, is an easier skill to acquire, and has the potential that more villi can be aspirated when needed, and remains the first choice for prenatal diagnosis.
