Journal Article
Atividade antibacteriana, antifúngica e moduladora da atividade antimicrobiana de frações obtidas de Lygodium venustum SW
Henrique Douglas Melo Coutinho,Maria Flaviana Bezerra Morais Braga,Teógenes M. Souza,Karla K.A. Santos,Gláucia M.M. Guedes,Jaqueline Cosme Andrade,Saulo R. Tintino,José Galberto Martins da Costa,Irwin Rose Alencar de Menezes,A. C. V. Saraiva +9 more
TL;DR: Tais resultados sugerem que metabolitos secundarios existentes no vegetal poderao ser utilizados para constituicao de novas drogas em associacao com aminoglicosideos.
Journal ArticleDOI
In Vitro and In Silico Inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus Efflux Pump NorA by α-Pinene and Limonene.
Ana Carolina Justino de Araújo,Priscilla Ramos Freitas,Cristina Rodrigues dos Santos Barbosa,Débora Feitosa Muniz,Ray S. Almeida,Irwin Rose Alencar de Menezes,Jaime Ribeiro-Filho,Saulo R. Tintino,Henrique Douglas Melo Coutinho +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, α-pinene and limonene were evaluated as EP inhibitors against a strain of Staphylococcus aureus expressing NorA protein, which carried genes encoding efflux proteins associated with antibiotic resistance to norfloxacin, was assessed through the broth microdilution method.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enhancement of the antibiotic activity by quercetin against Staphylococcus aureus efflux pumps
Joycy Francely Sampaio dos Santos,Saulo R. Tintino,Ana Raquel Pereira da Silva,Cristina Rodrigues dos Santos Barbosa,Jackelyne Roberta Scherf,Zildene de Sousa Silveira,Thiago Sampaio de Freitas,Luiz Jardelino de Lacerda Neto,Luiz Marivando Barros,I. R. A. Menezes,Henrique Douglas Melo Coutinho,José P. Siqueira-Júnior,Francisco Afrânio Cunha +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the inhibitory effect of quercetin on S. aureus efflux pumps using the broth microdilution method, as well as the efflux pump inhibition assay through the method of reducing the antibiotic minimum inhibitory concentration.
Journal Article
Modulatory antimicrobial activity of Piper arboretum extracts (Zingiberaceae)
Saulo R. Tintino,Celestina E.S. Souza,Gláucia M.M. Guedes,Jaqueline I. V. Costa,Francisco M. Duarte,Maria Celia O. Chaves,Viviane A. Silva,Hilzeth de Luna Freire Pessôa,Micheline A Lima,Carlos A. Garcia,Henrique Douglas Melo Coutinho +10 more
TL;DR: These natural products can be an interesting alternative not only to combat infectious diseases caused by bacteria or fungi, but also to combat enhanced resistance of microorganisms to antibiotic and antifungal drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cholecalciferol, Ergosterol, and Cholesterol Enhance the Antibiotic Activity of Drugs.
Jacqueline Cosmo Andrade,Maria Flaviana Bezerra Morais Braga,Gláucia M.M. Guedes,Saulo R. Tintino,Maria A. Freitas,Lucindo Quintans,Irwin Rose Alencar de Menezes,Henrique Douglas Melo Coutinho +7 more
TL;DR: Cholecalciferol, when combined with aminoglycosides, was more effective against P. aeruginosa, reducing the concentration of amikacin and gentamicin necessary to inhibit bacterial growth and the effect was greater with higher subinhibitory concentration of sterol.
