Journal ArticleDOI
Action of cholecalciferol and alpha-tocopherol on Staphylococcus aureus efflux pumps
Saulo R. Tintino,Cícera D. Morais-Tintino,Fábia F. Campina,Raimundo Luiz Silva Pereira,Maria do Socorro Costa,Maria Flaviana Bezerra Morais Braga,Paulo W. Limaverde,Jacqueline Cosmo Andrade,José P. Siqueira-Júnior,Henrique Douglas Melo Coutinho,Valdir de Queiroz Balbino,Tereza Cristina Leal-Balbino,Jaime Ribeiro-Filho,Lucindo José Quintans-Júnior +13 more
TL;DR: It was observed that in the presence of the treatments there was a decrease in the MIC for the RN4220 and IS-58 strains, suggesting that the substances presented an inhibitory effect on the efflux pumps of these strains.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tannic acid affects the phenotype of Staphylococcus aureus resistant to tetracycline and erythromycin by inhibition of efflux pumps.
Saulo R. Tintino,Cícera D. Morais-Tintino,Fábia F. Campina,Maria do Socorro Costa,Irwin Rose Alencar de Menezes,Yedda M.L.S. de Matos,João Tavares Calixto-Junior,Pedro de Souza Pereira,José P. Siqueira-Junior,T.C. Leal-Balbino,Henrique Douglas Melo Coutinho,Valdir de Queiroz Balbino +11 more
TL;DR: The results indicate the possible usage of tannic acid asan inhibitor and an adjuvant in the antibiotic therapy against multidrug resistant bacteria (MDR).
Journal ArticleDOI
Photoprotective potential of medicinal plants from Cerrado biome (Brazil) in relation to phenolic content and antioxidant activity.
Alesandra Ricardo Nunes,Ana Livya Moreira Rodrigues,Dinalva Brito de Queiroz,Ícaro Gusmão Pinto Vieira,João Francisco Câmara Neto,João Tavares Calixto Júnior,Saulo R. Tintino,Selene Maia de Morais,Henrique Douglas Melo Coutinho +8 more
TL;DR: Almost all extracts showed a potential for UVB radiation absorption in accordance with the ANVISA technical regulation for cosmetic sunscreens, and the antioxidant activity of the extracts was evaluated using the DPPH radical scavenging test.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anti-Trypanosoma cruzi and cytotoxic activities of Eugenia uniflora L.
Karla K.A. Santos,Edinardo F.F. Matias,Saulo R. Tintino,Celestina E.S. Souza,Maria Flaviana Bezerra Morais Braga,Gláucia M.M. Guedes,Miriam Rolón,Celeste Vega,Antonieta Rojas de Arias,José Galberto Martins da Costa,Irwin Rose Alencar de Menezes,Henrique Douglas Melo Coutinho +11 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that E. uniflora could be a source of plant-derived natural products with anti-epimastigote activity with low toxicity, and this is the first record of anti-Trypanosoma activity of E.uniflorA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phenolic composition and antiparasitic activity of plants from the Brazilian Northeast "Cerrado".
João Tavares Calixto Júnior,Selene Maia de Morais,Celeste Vega Gómez,Cathia Coronel Molas,Miriam Rolón,Aline Augusti Boligon,Margareth Linde Athayde,Cícera Datiane de Morais Oliveira,Saulo R. Tintino,Melo Coutinho Henrique Douglas +9 more
TL;DR: The antiparasitic and cytotoxic activities of three plant species from the Cerrado biome, Northeastern Brazil are described and the need for further tests to enable future in vivo trials, including antineoplastic activity on human tumor cells is pointed out.
