Journal ArticleDOI
BAX Inhibitor-1 Is a Negative Regulator of the ER Stress Sensor IRE1α
Fernanda Lisbona,Diego Rojas-Rivera,Peter Thielen,Sebastián Zamorano,Derrick J. Todd,Fabio Martinon,Alvaro Glavic,Christina L. Kress,Jonathan H. Lin,Peter Walter,John C. Reed,Laurie H. Glimcher,Claudio Hetz,Claudio Hetz +13 more
TL;DR: A role for BI-1 is suggested in early adaptive responses against ER stress that contrasts with its known downstream function in apoptosis, which is known to be regulated by XBP-1.
Journal ArticleDOI
Axonal Degeneration Is Mediated by the Mitochondrial Permeability Transition Pore
Sebastian A. Barrientos,Nicolas W. Martinez,Soonmoon Yoo,Juan S. Jara,Sebastián Zamorano,Claudio Hetz,Claudio Hetz,Jeffery L. Twiss,Jaime Alvarez,Felipe A. Court +9 more
TL;DR: This work shows that rapid axonal degeneration triggered by distinct mechanical and toxic insults is dependent on the activation of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP), and suggests that the mPTP is a key effector of axonic degeneration, upon which several independent signaling pathways converge.
Journal ArticleDOI
BH3-only proteins are part of a regulatory network that control the sustained signalling of the unfolded protein response sensor IRE1α
Diego A. Rodriguez,Sebastián Zamorano,Fernanda Lisbona,Diego Rojas-Rivera,Hery Urra,Juan R. Cubillos-Ruiz,Ricardo Armisen,Daniel R. Henríquez,Emily H. Cheng,Michal Letek,Tomas Vaisar,Thergiory Irrazabal,Christian Gonzalez-Billault,Anthony Letai,Felipe X. Pimentel-Muiños,Guido Kroemer,Claudio Hetz +16 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that a subset of BCL‐2 family members participates in a new UPR‐regulatory network, thus assuming apoptosis‐unrelated functions.
Journal ArticleDOI
A BAX/BAK and Cyclophilin D-Independent Intrinsic Apoptosis Pathway
Sebastián Zamorano,Diego Rojas-Rivera,Fernanda Lisbona,Valentina Parra,Felipe A. Court,Rosario Villegas,Emily H. Cheng,Stanley J. Korsmeyer,Sergio Lavandero,Sergio Lavandero,Claudio Hetz +10 more
TL;DR: The results suggest the existence of an alternative intrinsic apoptosis pathway emerging from a cross talk between the ER and the mitochondria, which did not require Cyclophilin D (CypD) expression, an important regulator of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore.

Null controllability from the exterior of a one-dimensional nonlocal heat equation
TL;DR: In this article, the null controllability problem from the exterior for the one dimensional heat equation on the interval $(0,1)$ associated with the fractional Laplace operator was considered.
