A Mutually Inhibitory Interaction between Auxin and Cytokinin Specifies Vascular Pattern in Roots
Anthony Bishopp,Hanna Help,Sedeer El-Showk,Dolf Weijers,Ben Scheres,Jiří Friml,Eva Benková,Ari Pekka Mähönen,Ari Pekka Mähönen,Ykä Helariutta +9 more
TL;DR: A mutually inhibitory feedback loop between auxin and cytokinin that sets distinct boundaries of hormonal output is presented and it is an intriguing possibility that such a mechanism could transform radial patterns and allow continuous vascular connections between other newly emerging organs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of factors required for m6A mRNA methylation in Arabidopsis reveals a role for the conserved E3 ubiquitin ligase HAKAI
Kamil Růžička,Kamil Růžička,Mi Zhang,Ana Campilho,Ana Campilho,Zsuzsanna Bodi,Muhammad Kashif,Mária Saleh,Dominique Eeckhout,Sedeer El-Showk,Hongying Li,Silin Zhong,Silin Zhong,Geert De Jaeger,Nigel P. Mongan,Jan Hejátko,Ykä Helariutta,Ykä Helariutta,Rupert G. Fray +18 more
TL;DR: Using combined methods of genetics, proteomics and RNA biochemistry, a core set of mRNA m6A writer proteins in Arabidopsis thaliana were identified and downregulation of these proteins led to reduced relative m 6A levels and shared pleiotropic phenotypes, indicating that correct m6 a methylation plays a role in developmental decisions during pattern formation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phloem-Transported Cytokinin Regulates Polar Auxin Transport and Maintains Vascular Pattern in the Root Meristem
Anthony Bishopp,Satu Lehesranta,Anne Vatén,Hanna Help,Sedeer El-Showk,Ben Scheres,Kerttuli Helariutta,Ari Pekka Mähönen,Ari Pekka Mähönen,Hitoshi Sakakibara,Ykä Helariutta +10 more
TL;DR: A role for long-distance basipetal transport of cytokinin is demonstrated in controlling polar auxin transport and maintaining the vascular pattern in the root meristem through symplastic connections in the phloem.
Journal ArticleDOI
Crossing paths: cytokinin signalling and crosstalk
TL;DR: The rich interconnections between the synthesis, perception and transport networks of these plant hormones provide a wide range of opportunities for them to modulate, amplify or buffer one another.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sphingolipid biosynthesis modulates plasmodesmal ultrastructure and phloem unloading
Dawei Yan,Shri Ram Yadav,Shri Ram Yadav,Andrea Paterlini,William J Nicolas,William J Nicolas,Jules D. Petit,Jules D. Petit,Lysiane Brocard,Ilya Belevich,Magali S. Grison,Anne Vatén,Leila Karami,Leila Karami,Sedeer El-Showk,Jung-Youn Lee,Gosia M. Murawska,Gosia M. Murawska,Jenny C. Mortimer,Jenny C. Mortimer,Michael Knoblauch,Eija Jokitalo,Jonathan E. Markham,Emmanuelle Bayer,Ykä Helariutta,Ykä Helariutta +25 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a novel gene, PHLOEM UNLOADING MODULATOR (PLM), was reported, in which plasmodesmata-mediated symplastic transport through the phloem pole pericycle-endodermis interface is specifically enhanced.
