Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanism of DNA cleavage induced by sodium chromate(VI) in the presence of hydrogen peroxide.

TL;DR: Results indicate that sodium chromate(VI) reacts with hydrogen peroxide to form tetraperoxochromate(V), leading to the production of the hydroxyl radical, which causes every base alteration and deoxyribose-phosphate backbone breakage.
Journal ArticleDOI

On the mechanism of the chemical and enzymic oxygenations of alpha-oxyprotohemin IX to Fe.biliverdin IX alpha

TL;DR: The results indicate that the sequence of oxyheme autoxidation in the presence of apomyoglobin is alpha-oxyprotoheme IX O2----CO----verdohemochrome IX alpha pi-radical O2 ----Fe(III).
Journal ArticleDOI

Uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase. Purification, properties, and inhibition by polychlorinated biphenyl isomers.

TL;DR: A new and simple method for the separation of free uroporphyrin, hepta-, hexa-, and pentacarboxylic porphyrins and coproporphirin was developed using a high pressure liquid chromatograph equipped with a spectrofluorometric detector.
Journal ArticleDOI

A primitive pathway of porphyrin biosynthesis and enzymology in Desulfovibrio vulgaris

TL;DR: A primitive pathway of heme biosynthesis in D. vulgaris is indicated, shedding new light on porphyrin biosynthesis at an early stage in the evolution of prokaryotes.
