Journal ArticleDOI
Seed exchange networks for agrobiodiversity conservation. A review
Marco Pautasso,Guntra A. Aistara,Adeline Barnaud,Sophie Caillon,Pascal Clouvel,Oliver T. Coomes,Marc Delêtre,Elise Demeulenaere,Paola De Santis,Thomas F. Döring,Ludivine Eloy,Laure Emperaire,Eric Garine,Isabelle Goldringer,Devra I. Jarvis,Hélène Joly,Christian Leclerc,Selim Louafi,Pierre Martin,François Massol,Shawn McGuire,Doyle McKey,Christine Padoch,Clélia Soler,Mathieu Thomas,Sara Tramontini +25 more
TL;DR: The role of seed exchange networks in the preservation and adaptation of crop specific and genetic diversity is discussed in this article, where the authors advocate a diversity of approaches to foster the creation of robust and policy-relevant knowledge.
Journal ArticleDOI
Farmer seed networks make a limited contribution to agriculture? Four common misconceptions
Oliver T. Coomes,Shawn McGuire,Eric Garine,Sophie Caillon,Doyle McKey,Elise Demeulenaere,Devra I. Jarvis,Guntra A. Aistara,Adeline Barnaud,Pascal Clouvel,Laure Emperaire,Selim Louafi,Pierre Martin,François Massol,Marco Pautasso,Chloé Violon,Jean Wencelius +16 more
TL;DR: The importance of seed provisioning in food security and nutrition, agricultural development and rural livelihoods, and agrobiodiversity and germplasm conservation is well accepted by policy makers, practitioners and researchers as mentioned in this paper.
Book ChapterDOI
Conserving and Cultivating Agricultural Genetic Diversity: Transcending Established Divides
TL;DR: Santonieri et al. as mentioned in this paper highlight the complexity and structural inequalities between mechanisms to conserve agricultural genetic diversity, and argue that we must rather define objectives of conserving/protecting agricultural biodiversity in terms of geographic levels (local, regional, North/South, global), social management levels (individuals, human societies, mankind), and socio economic levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Networking agrobiodiversity management to foster biodiversity-based agriculture. A review
Vanesse Labeyrie,Martine Antona,Jacques Baudry,Didier Bazile,Örjan Bodin,Sophie Caillon,Christian Leclerc,Christophe Le Page,Selim Louafi,Juliette Mariel,François Massol,François Massol,Mathieu Thomas +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors review the literature on the role of social networks in farmers' access to agrobiodiversity, in the form of crop diversity and associated biodiversity, and the related knowledge to manage this diversity.
Book Chapter
Quinoa and the exchange of genetic resources: Improving the regulation systems
Marco Allan Chevarria Lazo,Didier Bazile,Dominique Dessauw,Selim Louafi,Michel Trommetter,Henri Hocdé +5 more
TL;DR: The International Year of Quinoa (IYQ) was recognized by the United Nations in 2013 as discussed by the authors, highlighting the potential role of quinoa's biodiversity in contributing to global food security, given its high nutritional value and tremendous potential to adapt to different agroclimatic conditions.
