Journal ArticleDOI
Propagation and scattering of nonlinear waves in disordered systems
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors review recent numerical and analytical results related to the coexistence of nonlinear wave propagation and disorder effects, mostly for soliton bearing systems, and demonstrate that nonlinear transmission strongly depends on the soliton type: results are different for dynamical, topological, and envelope solitons.
Journal ArticleDOI
Suppression of Anderson Localization in Disordered Metamaterials
Ara A. Asatryan,Lindsay C. Botten,M. A. Byrne,Valentin Freilikher,Sergey A. Gredeskul,Sergey A. Gredeskul,Ilya V. Shadrivov,Ross C. McPhedran,Yuri S. Kivshar +8 more
TL;DR: Wave propagation in mixed, 1D disordered stacks of alternating right- and left-handed layers is studied and it is revealed that the introduction of metamaterials substantially suppresses Anderson localization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of microscopic disorder on magnetic properties of metamaterials
Maxim V. Gorkunov,Maxim V. Gorkunov,Sergey A. Gredeskul,Sergey A. Gredeskul,Ilya V. Shadrivov,Yuri S. Kivshar +5 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that even a weak microscopic disorder may lead to a substantial modification of the metamaterial magnetic properties, and a 10% deviation in the parameters of the microscopic resonant elements may leadto a substantial suppression of the wave propagation in a wide frequency range.
Book ChapterDOI
III Localization of Waves in Media With One-Dimensional Disorder
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the localization of waves in media with 1D disorder and discuss the statistical properties of the various physical quantities in random media, that is, the dielectric constant and the random potential.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anderson localization in metamaterials and other complex media
Sergey A. Gredeskul,Yuri S. Kivshar,Ara A. Asatrian,Konstantin Y. Bliokh,Yuri P. Bliokh,Valentin Freilikher,Ilya V. Shadrivov +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the results on the Anderson localization of light and electron waves in complex disordered systems, including left-handed metamaterials, magneto-active optical structures, graphene superlattices, and nonlinear dielectric media, is presented.
