Journal ArticleDOI
Post-traumatic stress disorder is associated with PACAP and the PAC1 receptor
Kerry J. Ressler,Kerry J. Ressler,Kerry J. Ressler,Kristina B. Mercer,Bekh Bradley,Bekh Bradley,Tanja Jovanovic,Amy Mahan,Kimberly Kerley,Seth D. Norrholm,Seth D. Norrholm,Varun Kilaru,Alicia K. Smith,Amanda J. Myers,Manuel Ramirez,Anzhelika Engel,Sayamwong E. Hammack,Donna J. Toufexis,Donna J. Toufexis,Karen M. Braas,Elisabeth B. Binder,Victor May +21 more
TL;DR: Data suggest that perturbations in the PACAP–PAC1 pathway are involved in abnormal stress responses underlying PTSD, and sex-specific effects may occur via oestrogen regulation of ADCYAP1R1.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impaired Fear Inhibition is a Biomarker of PTSD but not Depression
Tanja Jovanovic,Seth D. Norrholm,Seth D. Norrholm,Q B A Nineequa Blanding,Michael Davis,Erica Duncan,Erica Duncan,Bekh Bradley,Bekh Bradley,Kerry J. Ressler,Kerry J. Ressler,Kerry J. Ressler +11 more
TL;DR: Impaired fear inhibition may be a specific biomarker of PTSD symptoms, according to the results of a novel conditional discrimination procedure used in this study.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fear Extinction in Traumatized Civilians with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: Relation to Symptom Severity
Seth D. Norrholm,Seth D. Norrholm,Tanja Jovanovic,Ilana W. Olin,Ilana W. Olin,Lauren A. Sands,India Karapanou,Bekh Bradley,Bekh Bradley,Kerry J. Ressler +9 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that PTSD is associated with enhanced fear learning and a greater "fear load" to extinguish after conditioned fear is acquired.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Randomized, Double-Blind Evaluation of d-Cycloserine or Alprazolam Combined With Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in Iraq and Afghanistan War Veterans
Barbara O. Rothbaum,Matthew Price,Tanja Jovanovic,Seth D. Norrholm,Maryrose Gerardi,Boadie W. Dunlop,Michael Davis,Bekh Bradley,Erica Duncan,Albert Rizzo,Kerry J. Ressler +10 more
TL;DR: A six-session virtual reality treatment was associated with reduction in PTSD diagnoses and symptoms in Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, although there was no control condition for the virtual reality exposure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Posttraumatic stress disorder may be associated with impaired fear inhibition: Relation to symptom severity
Tanja Jovanovic,Tanja Jovanovic,Seth D. Norrholm,Seth D. Norrholm,Jennifer E. Fennell,Megan Keyes,Ana M. Fiallos,Karyn M. Myers,Michael Davis,Erica Duncan,Erica Duncan +10 more
TL;DR: Fear potentiation and fear inhibition were assessed using fear-potentiated startle in a conditional discrimination procedure (AX+/BX-) and all groups showed robust fear potentiation in that they had significantly greater startle magnitude on AX trials than on noise-alone trials.
