Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of viable Mycobacterium leprae in soil samples: insights into possible sources of transmission of leprosy.
Mallika Lavania,Kiran Katoch,Vishwa Mohan Katoch,Anuj Kumar Gupta,Devendra Singh Chauhan,Rahul Sharma,Rashi Gandhi,Varsha Chauhan,Gurpreet Bansal,Pawan Sachan,Shailendra Sachan,V.S. Yadav,R.S. Jadhav +12 more
TL;DR: This study has tried to detect viable M. leprae from soil samples in endemic areas by using molecular methods, which would be of use in investigating the transmission dynamics in leprosy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Efficacy and Safety of Mycobacterium indicus pranii as an adjunct therapy in Category II pulmonary tuberculosis in a randomized trial
Surendra K. Sharma,Kiran Katoch,Rohit Sarin,Raman Balambal,Nirmal Kumar Jain,Naresh P. Patel,Kolluri J. R. Murthy,Neeta Singla,P. K. Saha,Ashwani Khanna,Urvashi B. Singh,Sanjiv Kumar,A. Arora,Sangeeta Bhaskar,Rajni Rani +29 more
TL;DR: A significantly higher number of patients in the MIP group achieved sputum culture conversion at fourth week compared to the placebo group, suggesting a role of MIP in clearance of the bacilli.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predominance of three copies of tandem repeats in rpoT gene of Mycobacterium leprae from Northern India.
Mallika Lavania,Kiran Katoch,H B Singh,Ram Das,Anuj Kumar Gupta,Rahul Sharma,Devendra Singh Chauhan,Vishnu Dutt Sharma,Pawan Sachan,Shailendra Sachan,Vishwa Mohan Katoch +10 more
TL;DR: Among 100 strains from Northern Indian patients, 89% exhibited the presence of three copies of the 6bp tandem repeat in the rpoT gene, while 11% contained four copies, which may help in studying the historical spread of leprosy by strains of M. leprae disseminated by various human races that migrated to Northern India from other places of Asian continent.
