Journal ArticleDOI

The zinc paradigm for metalloneurochemistry.

TL;DR: Development and improvement of methods which allow for precise detection and immediate manipulation of zinc ions in neuronal cells and in brain slices will be critical in uncovering the synaptic action of zinc and, more broadly, the bioinorganic chemistry of cognition.
Journal ArticleDOI

8-TQEN (N,N,N′,N′-tetrakis(8-quinolylmethyl)ethylenediamine) analogs as fluorescent cadmium sensors: strategies to enhance Cd2+-induced fluorescence and Cd2+/Zn2+ selectivity

TL;DR: In order to exploit the untapped sensing potential of the TQEN family of fluorescent probes, 8-TQEN analogs were designed and characterized in this paper, where the quinoline groups were replaced with 8-hydroxyquinoline different responses were observed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Detection of adsorbates on emissive MOF surfaces with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

TL;DR: XPS experiments utilized a fluorinated nitroaromatic molecule that extinguishes ABMOF-1 emission, and verified surface adsorption through a series of angle-resolved (ARXPS) and argon-ion sputter depth profile experiments to develop a general approach for distinguishing between the various intermolecular interactions between MOFs and analytes that lead to changes in luminescence.
Journal ArticleDOI

The ends of elements

TL;DR: When elements 117 and 118 are finally named, should these new members of the halogen and noble gas families receive names ending in -ium as IUPAC has suggested?
Journal ArticleDOI

Zinc Photocages with Improved Photophysical Properties and Cell Permeability Imparted by Ternary Complex Formation.

TL;DR: The new photocage, {bis[(2-pyridyl)methyl]amino}(9-oxo-2-xanthenyl)acetic acid (XDPAdeCage), which utilizes a 2-xanthone acetic acid group to mediate a photodecarboxylation reaction, is described and confirmed transport of Zn2+ across membranes is confirmed.
