Journal ArticleDOI
Randomized, controlled, crossover trial of methylphenidate in pervasive developmental disorders with hyperactivity
David J. Posey,David J. Posey,Michael G. Aman,L. Eugene Arnold,Yaser Ramadan,Andrea N. Witwer,Ronald L. Lindsay,Christopher J. McDougle,Naomi B. Swiezy,Arlene E. Kohn,James T. McCracken,Bhavik Shah,Pegeen Cronin,James J. McGough,Lisa Sea Yun Lee,Lawrence Scahill,Andrés Martin,Kathleen Koenig,Deirdre H. Carroll,Christopher Young,Allison Lancor,Elaine Tierney,Jaswinder K. Ghuman,N. González,Marco A. Grados,Benedetto Vitiello,Louise Ritz,Shirley Chuang,Mark Davies,James Robinson,Donald J. McMahon +30 more
TL;DR: Methylphenidate was often efficacious in treating hyperactivity associated with pervasive developmental disorders, but the magnitude of response was less than that seen in typically developing children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
Journal ArticleDOI
Efficacy and Safety of Immediate-Release Methylphenidate Treatment for Preschoolers with ADHD.
Laurence L. Greenhill,Scott H. Kollins,Howard Abikoff,James T. McCracken,Mark A. Riddle,James M. Swanson,James J. McGough,Sharon B. Wigal,Timothy Wigal,Benedetto Vitiello,Anne Skrobala,Kelly Posner,Jaswinder K. Ghuman,Charles E. Cunningham,Mark Davies,Shirley Chuang,Thomas B. Cooper,Thomas B. Cooper +17 more
TL;DR: MPH-IR, delivered in 2.5, 5, and 7.5-mg doses t.i.d., produced significant reductions on ADHD symptom scales in preschoolers compared to placebo, although effect sizes were smaller than those cited for school-age children on the same medication.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risperidone for the core symptom domains of autism: results from the study by the autism network of the research units on pediatric psychopharmacology.
Christopher J. McDougle,Lawrence Scahill,Michael G. Aman,James T. McCracken,Elaine Tierney,Mark Davies,L. Eugene Arnold,David J. Posey,Andrã¨s Martin,Jaswinder K. Ghuman,Bhavik Shah,Shirley Chuang,Naomi B. Swiezy,N. González,Jill A. Hollway,Kathleen Koenig,James J. McGough,Louise Ritz,Benedetto Vitiello +18 more
TL;DR: Risperidone led to significant improvements in the restricted, repetitive, and stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests, and activities of autistic children but did not significantly change their deficit in social interaction and communication.
Journal ArticleDOI
Safety and tolerability of methylphenidate in preschool children with ADHD.
Timothy Wigal,Laurence L. Greenhill,Shirley Chuang,James J. McGough,Benedetto Vitiello,Anne Skrobala,James M. Swanson,Sharon B. Wigal,Howard Abikoff,Scott H. Kollins,James T. McCracken,Mark A. Riddle,Kelly Posner,Jaswinder K. Ghuman,Mark Davies,Ben Thorp,Annamarie Stehli +16 more
TL;DR: Methylphenidate 3- to 5-year-old children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) during 1 year of treatment with methylphenidate (MPH) suffered from emotional outbursts, difficulty falling asleep, repetitive behaviors/thoughts, appetite decrease, and irritability, while parents spontaneously reported moderate to severe AEs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stimulant-Related Reductions of Growth Rates in the PATS
James M. Swanson,Laurence L. Greenhill,Timothy Wigal,Scott H. Kollins,Annamarie Stehli,Mark Davies,Shirley Chuang,Benedetto Vitiello,Anne Skrobala,Kelly Posner,Howard Abikoff,Melvin D. Oatis,James T. McCracken,James J. McGough,Mark A. Riddle,Jaswinder K. Ghuman,Charles E. Cunningham,Sharon B. Wigal +17 more
TL;DR: Risks of reduced growth rates should be balanced against expected benefits when preschool-age children are treated with stimulant medication.
