Journal ArticleDOI
A Death-Promoting Role for Extracellular Signal-Regulated Kinase
TL;DR: The evidence and mechanism of ERK-induced apoptosis in both cell culture and in animal models is summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI
A novel STAT3 inhibitor, S3I-201, attenuates renal interstitial fibroblast activation and interstitial fibrosis in obstructive nephropathy
Maoyin Pang,Li Ma,Rujun Gong,Evelyn Tolbert,Haiping Mao,Murugavel Ponnusamy,Y. Eugene Chin,Haidong Yan,Lance D. Dworkin,Shougang Zhuang +9 more
TL;DR: Increased STAT3 activity mediates activation of renal interstitial fibroblasts and the progression of renal fibrosis, and inhibition of STAT3 signaling with S3I-201 may hold therapeutic potential for fibrotic kidney diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of histone deacetylase activity attenuates renal fibroblast activation and interstitial fibrosis in obstructive nephropathy
Maoyin Pang,Jagan Kothapally,Haiping Mao,Evelyn Tolbert,Murugavel Ponnusamy,Y. Eugene Chin,Shougang Zhuang +6 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that pharmacological HDAC inhibition may induce antifibrotic activity by inactivation of renal interstitial fibroblasts and inhibition of renal tubular cell death and STAT3 may mediate those actions of HDACs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Histone deacetylases as targets for treatment of multiple diseases
TL;DR: This review will examine the application of HDAC inhibitors in a variety of diseases with the focus on their effects of anti-cancer, fibrosis, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory activity and regulating metabolic disorders.
Journal ArticleDOI
ERK promotes hydrogen peroxide-induced apoptosis through caspase-3 activation and inhibition of Akt in renal epithelial cells
TL;DR: It is suggested that ERK elicits apoptosis in epithelial cells by activating caspase-3 and inhibiting Akt pathways and elicits nuclear condensation through casp enzyme- 3 and histone H2B phosophorylation during oxidant injury.
