Journal ArticleDOI
From endothelial dysfunction to atherosclerosis
Simona Sitia,Livio Tomasoni,Fabiola Atzeni,Giuseppe Ambrosio,C. Cordiano,Alberico L. Catapano,Simona Tramontana,Francesco Perticone,P. Naccarato,Paolo G. Camici,Eugenio Picano,Lauro Cortigiani,M. Bevilacqua,Laura Milazzo,Daniele Cusi,Cristina Barlassina,Piercarlo Sarzi-Puttini,Maurizio Turiel +17 more
TL;DR: The most important aspects of the pathogenesis and development of endothelial dysfunction are summarized, with particular attention to the role of traditional CV risk factors, the usefulness of vasoreactivity tests, and the future perspectives opened by genetic studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Circulating CD4+CD25hiCD127lo Regulatory T-Cell Levels Do Not Reflect the Extent or Severity of Carotid and Coronary Atherosclerosis
Enrico Ammirati,Domenico Cianflone,M. Banfi,Viviana Vecchio,Alessio Palini,Monica De Metrio,Giancarlo Marenzi,Claudio Panciroli,Gabriele Tumminello,Angelo Anzuini,Altin Palloshi,Liliana Grigore,Katia Garlaschelli,Simona Tramontana,Davide Tavano,Flavio Airoldi,Angelo A. Manfredi,Alberico L. Catapano,Giuseppe Danilo Norata +18 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that determination of circulating Treg-cell levels based on flow cytometry or mRNA assessment is not a useful indicator of the extent or severity of atherosclerosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of PCSK9 variants on common carotid artery intima media thickness and relation to ApoE alleles
Giuseppe Danilo Norata,Katia Garlaschelli,Liliana Grigore,Sara Raselli,Simona Tramontana,Fiorella Meneghetti,Roberto Artali,Davide Noto,Angelo B. Cefalù,Gherardo Buccianti,Maurizio Averna,Alberico L. Catapano +11 more
TL;DR: The E670G polymorphism of the PCSK9 gene is associated with increased IMT progression in the general population and when the presence of 670G allele is stratified according to the ApOE gene alleles, ApoE2;PCSK9-670EE carriers show a more favorable plasma lipid profile and decreased IMT compared to Apoe4-PCSK 9-670G carriers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between OLR1 K167N SNP and Intima Media Thickness of the Common Carotid Artery in the General Population
Irene M. Predazzi,Irene M. Predazzi,Giuseppe Danilo Norata,Lucia Vecchione,Katia Garlaschelli,Francesca Amati,Liliana Grigore,Lucia Cutuli,Angela Pirillo,Simona Tramontana,Francesco Romeo,Giuseppe Novelli,Alberico L. Catapano +12 more
TL;DR: Data suggest that the 167N variant of LOX-1 receptor affects the atherogenic process in the carotid artery prior to evidence of disease through an inflammatory process.
