Journal ArticleDOI
Effectiveness and safety of a generic fixed-dose combination of nevirapine, stavudine, and lamivudine in HIV-1-infected adults in Cameroon: open-label multicentre trial
Christian Laurent,Charles Kouanfack,Sinata Koulla-Shiro,Nathalie Nkoué,Anke Bourgeois,Alexandra Calmy,Bernadette Lactuock,Viviane Nzeusseu,Rose Mougnutou,Gilles Peytavin,Florian Liegeois,Eric Nerrienet,Michèle Tardy,Martine Peeters,Isabelle Andrieux-Meyer,Leopold Zekeng,Michel D. Kazatchkine,Eitel Mpoudi-Ngole,Eric Delaporte +18 more
TL;DR: The findings lend support to use and funding of a generic fixed-dose combination of nevirapine, stavudine, and lamivudine as first-line antiretroviral treatment in developing countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in eight African hospitals and Malta.
C N Kesah,S. Ben Redjeb,Tolu Odugbemi,C.S. Boye,M. Dosso,J.O. Ndinya Achola,Sinata Koulla-Shiro,M. Benbachir,K. Rahal,Michael Borg +9 more
TL;DR: The prevalence and antibiotic susceptibility patterns of MRSA in eight large hospitals in Africa and Malta, from 1996 to 1997, were determined and it was found that there is a need to maintain surveillance and control ofMRSA infections in Africa.
Journal ArticleDOI
Monitoring of HIV viral loads, CD4 cell counts, and clinical assessments versus clinical monitoring alone for antiretroviral therapy in rural district hospitals in Cameroon (Stratall ANRS 12110/ESTHER): a randomised non-inferiority trial
Christian Laurent,Charles Kouanfack,Gabrièle Laborde-Balen,Avelin F. Aghokeng,Jules Brice Tchatchueng Mbougua,Sylvie Boyer,Maria Patrizia Carrieri,Jean-Marc Mben,Marlise Dontsop,Serge Kazé,Nicolas Molinari,Anke Bourgeois,Anke Bourgeois,Eitel Mpoudi-Ngole,Bruno Spire,Sinata Koulla-Shiro,Eric Delaporte,Eric Delaporte +17 more
TL;DR: The small differences that were noted between the strategies suggest that clinical monitoring alone could be used, at least temporarily, to expand antiretroviral therapy in low-resource settings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of mobile phone reminders on follow-up medical care of children exposed to or infected with HIV in Cameroon (MORE CARE): a multicentre, single-blind, factorial, randomised controlled trial
Jean Joel Bigna,Jean Joel Bigna,Jean Jacques Noubiap,Charles Kouanfack,Claudia S. Plottel,Sinata Koulla-Shiro +5 more
TL;DR: More CARE as discussed by the authors was a multicentre, single-blind, factorial, randomised controlled trial in urban, semi-urban, and rural settings in Cameroon, where mobile phone-based reminders of scheduled HIV appointments for carers of paediatric patients in low-resource settings can increase attendance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Scaling up access to antiretroviral treatment for HIV infection: the impact of decentralization of healthcare delivery in Cameroon.
Sylvie Boyer,Fred Eboko,Mamadou Camara,Claude Abé,Mathias Eric Owona Nguini,Sinata Koulla-Shiro,Jean-Paul Moatti +6 more
TL;DR: Success in scaling-up access to ART in Cameroon has been facilitated by decentralization of the healthcare system, and immunological improvement was similar in patients followed up at the central and district level, whereas adherence to ART was better both at provincial and district levels.
