Lost in transition: the transfer of lean manufacturing to construction

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the transfer of lean manufacturing/production from the Japanese manufacturing industry to the construction sector in the west and reveal a number of characteristics specific to lean construction, most notably the recognition that critical research findings have been slow to emerge but appear to be gaining momentum.

Communication in Construction Teams

TL;DR: In this paper, Bales' interaction process analysis (IPA) is used to collect interaction data and investigate the link between successful projects and the effectiveness of communication, finding that participants in the construction process exhibit regular patterns of interaction and that there are different patterns associated with successful and unsuccessful projects.
Journal ArticleDOI

Beyond the third dimension of BIM: A systematic review of literature and assessment of professional views

TL;DR: In this article, a systematic review of the different BIM dimensions was conducted associated with an online questionnaire sent to various Architecture, Engineering and Construction stakeholders across Europe, and the online questionnaire survey was limited to the 28 European Union (EU) countries.

Communication behaviour during management and design team meetings:a comparison of group interaction

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used Bales interaction process analysis (IPA) to model the construction team's interaction in live project meetings and found that participants in construction meetings use high levels of task-based interaction and low levels of socio-emotional interaction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Facilitating Client Value Creation in the Conceptual Design Phase of Construction Projects: A Workshop Approach

TL;DR: In this article, the authors report the initial outcome of a joint research project between academics and practitioners, which aims to develop a practical workshop model that incorporates client values into the conceptual design of construction projects.
