Journal ArticleDOI
Lichen biomonitoring of ammonia emission and nitrogen deposition around a pig stockfarm.
Luisa Frati,S. Santoni,Valentina Nicolardi,Carlo Gaggi,Giorgio Brunialti,Anna Guttová,S. Gaudino,Alessandra Pati,Stergios Pirintsos,Stefano Loppi +9 more
TL;DR: Total lichen diversity was not associated with either NH3 concentrations or bark pH, but the diversity of strictly nitrophytic species was highly correlated with both parameters, and Physconia grisea was the best indicator species for NH3 pollution.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genomic diversity and macroecology of the crop wild relatives of domesticated pea
Petr Smýkal,Iveta Hradilová,Oldřich Trněný,Jan Brus,Abhishek Rathore,Michael Bariotakis,Roma Rani Das,Debjyoti Bhattacharyya,Christopher M. Richards,Clarice J. Coyne,Stergios Pirintsos +10 more
TL;DR: It is revealed that isolation by distance does not explain the genetic structure of P. elatius in its westward expansion from its center of origin, and the genetic diversity of wild pea may be driven by Miocene-Pliocene events, while the phylogenetic diversity centers may reflect Pleisto-Holocene climatic changes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic structure of wild pea (Pisum sativum subsp. elatius) populations in the northern part of the Fertile Crescent reflects moderate cross-pollination and strong effect of geographic but not environmental distance
Petr Smýkal,Oldřich Trněný,Jan Brus,Pavel Hanáček,Abhishek Rathore,Rani Das Roma,Vilém Pechanec,Martin Duchoslav,Debjyoti Bhattacharyya,Michalis Bariotakis,Stergios Pirintsos,Jens Berger,Cengiz Toker +12 more
TL;DR: Genetic distances of wild pea populations were correlated with geographic but not environmental (climatic) distances and support a mixed mating system with predominant self-pollination, making a strong case for further collection and ex situ conservation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Variation in wild pea (Pisum sativum subsp. elatius) seed dormancy and its relationship to the environment and seed coat traits
Iveta Hradilová,Martin Duchoslav,Jan Brus,Vilém Pechanec,Miroslav Hýbl,Pavel Kopecký,Lucie Smržová,Nikola Štefelová,Tadeáš Vaclávek,Michael Bariotakis,Jitka Machalová,Karel Hron,Stergios Pirintsos,Petr Smýkal +13 more
TL;DR: This study addresses the gap in knowledge of association between the seed dormancy, seed properties and environmental factors, experimentally testing oscillating temperature as dormancy release clue and provides the framework for analysis of environmental aspects of physical seed dormancies.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Tertiary relict tree Zelkova abelicea (Ulmaceae): distribution, population structure and conservation status on Crete
Gregor Kozlowski,David Frey,Laurence Fazan,Bernhard Egli,Sébastien Bétrisey,Joachim Gratzfeld,Giuseppe Garfì,Stergios Pirintsos +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors collected distribution, threat and population structure data by reviewing literature and herbaria and through field surveys at 14 study plots throughout the range of the species.
