Complex dynamics of human activity: language, cities, collaboration, and baseball
TL;DR: It turns out that, contrary to many people's expectations, an extreme streak, while unlikely, is not unlikely to have occurred about once within the history of baseball, and the relationship between the scientific or social distance of collaborators and the fruitfulness of their output is explored.
Journal ArticleDOI
Descendant distributions for the impact of mutant contagion on networks
TL;DR: The downstream impact of a single mutation event in a susceptible-infected model of contagion is explored, finding that the tail of the distribution decays as $d^{-2}$ for complete graphs, random graphs, small-world networks, networks with block-like structure, and other infinite-dimensional networks.
Posted ContentDOI
Evolutionary dynamics of incubation periods
TL;DR: It is predicted that two equally healthy individuals subjected to equal doses of equally pathogenic agents may, by chance alone, show remarkably different time courses of disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Topology of zigzag chromatin.
TL;DR: It is shown here that, compared to other feasible DNA paths, the observed winding pattern has remarkable topological properties.
