Data Mining Practical Machine Learning Tools and Techniques

This paper presents control and coordination algorithms for groups of vehicles. The focus is on autonomous vehicle networks performing distributed sensing tasks where each vehicle plays the role of a mobile tunable sensor. The paper proposes gradient descent algorithms for a class of utility functions which encode optimal coverage and sensing policies. The resulting closed-loop behavior is adaptive, distributed, asynchronous, and verifiably correct.

‡We describe the use of singular value decomposition in transforming genome-wide expression data from genes 3 arrays space to reduced diagonalized ‘‘eigengenes’’ 3 ‘‘eigenarrays’’ space, where the eigengenes (or eigenarrays) are unique orthonormal superpositions of the genes (or arrays). Normalizing the data by filtering out the eigengenes (and eigenarrays) that are inferred to represent noise or experimental artifacts enables meaningful comparison of the expression of different genes across different arrays in different experiments. Sorting the data according to the eigengenes and eigenarrays gives a global picture of the dynamics of gene expression, in which individual genes and arrays appear to be classified into groups of similar regulation and function, or similar cellular state and biological phenotype, respectively. After normalization and sorting, the significant eigengenes and eigenarrays can be associated with observed genome-wide effects of regulators, or with measured samples, in which these regulators are overactive or underactive, respectively.

EASL-ALEH Clinical Practice Guidelines: Non-invasive tests for evaluation of liver disease severity and prognosis.

The latest advances in hepatology were presented in oral and poster presentations. In order to cover the varying subspecialties, the sessions were divided into various sections including 'Acute Liver Failure and Artificial Liver Support', 'Biliary Tract and Immunologic Liver Diseases', 'Cellular and Molecular Biology', 'Clinical and Experimental Hepatobiliary Surgery', 'Hepatotoxicity and Cell Death', 'Transport and Biliary Physiology', 'Viral Hepatitis', 'Evaluation and Treatment of Biliary Disease', 'Necrosis/Apoptosis', 'Portal Hypertension', 'Blood Flow and Vascular Disorders of Cirrhosis', 'Liver Transplantation', 'Fibrogenesis', 'Hepatocellular Carcinoma', 'Metabolism and Genetic Disease', and 'Public Policy, Epidemiology and Decision Analysis'. Drug therapy focused on treatments for viral hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis, and recurrent viral disease following liver transplant. High dose interferon therapy or various combinations of interferon/ribavirin (ICN Pharmaceuticals Inc) therapy seem to offer the best current therapy for chronic HCV. PEGylated interferon (F Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd) offers hope for treatment and histologic improvement in patients with chronic HCV. Following liver transplantation, combination interferon/ribavirin therapy may also find success, but caution with new potent immunosuppressant monoclonal antibodies is advised. For HBV, intramuscular H-BIG (NABI) appears to be effective and less costly than iv H-BIG administration following liver transplantation. Percutaneous radiofrequency ablation may hold promise over conventional ethanol injection therapy for small hepatocellular carcinoma. Autoimmune hepatitis may respond to tacrolimus therapy whereas budesonide therapy did not provide any advantage to prednisone therapy. For primary biliary cirrhosis, eicosapentate and ursodeoxycholic acid may provide benefit to some patients while silymarin from milk thistle did not provide any additional benefit. In primary sclerosing cholangitis, high dose ursodeoxycholic acid may provide benefit. Ursodeoxycholic acid may also provide benefit for mothers with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy by decreasing pruritus, lowering laboratory values and allowing deliveries to occur closer to term.

Nowadays, mission-critical applications need delay-free responses, which can be achieved by computation at the edge devices known as edge computing. But edge computing needs cloud computing services to perform massive intelligent tasks like AI-based prediction and analysis, which still possesses high latency in making intelligent decisions. This can be resolved by bringing intelligence at the edge device or edge server, which introduces complex problems either at the proximity of edge devices, that is, consumer electronic devices (CED), or at the CED by bringing intelligence at the edge. The process of bringing intelligence to the edge is called edge intelligence (EI). The computation at edge servers is susceptible to various security and privacy issues and possesses high latency due to data propagation from the device to the dedicated edge server. To overcome the aforementioned issues, this study presents a blockchain-based edge intelligence system to ensure the CEDs' data security, privacy, latency, and efficiency. The proposed system uses public and private blockchains to fulfil the gaps mentioned above of the traditional systems. The public blockchain ensures CEDs' data communication privacy security, whereas private block-chain ensures secure communication among the EI servers. Then, we present the use case scenario of blockchain and edge intelligence (EI) in the COVID-19 pandemic and evaluate its performance over computation cost by comparing the intelligence at CED with the intelligence at the edge server and centralized cloud server (CCS).

In today’s modern data center design, optical interconnects forms an integral part for high-speed switching and design applications. In the past, Arrayed Waveguide Grating (AWG) was investigated heavily as they provided much-required solutions for contention resolution and packet routing. These designs are truly based on the concept of wavelength parallelism and routing nature of AWG. Also, the design of optical switches were categorized into two classes namely, buffer-based design and bufferless design. Without a buffer, previously the concept of All-Optical Negative Acknowledgement (AO-NACK) is introduced. In these designs, a negative acknowledgment is sent back to the sender in case of dropping of packets through a reflector wavelength. The sender then retransmits the packets. The drawback of such a scheme is that a large number of packets gets retransmitted which leads to cyclic congestion in the network. In this paper, the authors propose a buffer based design with AO-NACK scheme so that the number of transmitted packets is greatly reduced to about 400 times in case of bufferless designs, in case of transmission of 106 packets. Also, the authors propose a simplified architecture for switch design so that AO-NACK hardware design cost is reduced significantly.
