Journal ArticleDOI

The conserved protein kinase Ipl1 regulates microtubule binding to kinetochores in budding yeast

TL;DR: It is proposed that Ipl1p regulates kinetochore function via Ndc10p phosphorylation and localizes to the mitotic spindle and its levels are regulated during the cell cycle, similar to that of IPl1p homologs in higher eukaryotes, such as the human aurora2 protein.
Journal ArticleDOI

The budding yeast protein kinase Ipl1/Aurora allows the absence of tension to activate the spindle checkpoint

TL;DR: The budding yeast member of the Aurora protein kinase family, Ipl1p, is required to maintain a subset of spindle checkpoint arrests that is induced by overexpression of theprotein kinase Mps1.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tension directly stabilizes reconstituted kinetochore-microtubule attachments

TL;DR: It is proposed that tension selectively stabilizes proper kinetochore–microtubule attachments in vivo through a combination of direct mechanical stabilization and tension-dependent phosphoregulation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Histone variants: deviants?

TL;DR: Recent progress in understanding how histone variants lead to changes in chromatin structure and dynamics to carry out specific functions is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phosphoregulation of Spc105 by Mps1 and PP1 regulates Bub1 localization to kinetochores.

TL;DR: Together, these data identify Spc105 as a key target of the Mps1 kinase and show that the opposing activities of MPS1 and PP1 regulate the kinetochore localization of the Bub1 protein.
