Journal ArticleDOI

Licensing of natural killer cells by host major histocompatibility complex class I molecules

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that NK cells acquire functional competence through ‘licensing’ by self-MHC molecules, which results in two types of self-tolerant NK cells—licensed or unlicensed—and may provide new insights for exploiting NK cells in immunotherapy.
Journal Article

Tolerance and Alloreactivity of the Ly49D Subset of Murine NK Cells

TL;DR: Self tolerance of the Ly49D subset can be achieved through coexpression of a sufficient level of self-specific inhibitory receptors, as correlated with an increased mean fluorescence intensity of Ly49C expression, as well as an increased percentage of Ly 49D+A/G2- compartment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fine tuning of natural killer cell specificity and maintenance of self tolerance in MHC class I- deficient mice

TL;DR: The present results are discussed in relation to the role of MHC class I molecules and Ly49 receptors in shaping the NK cell repertoire and raise new questions about maintenance of self tolerance in theNK cell system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Allorecognition by murine natural killer cells: lysis of T-lymphoblasts and rejection of bone-marrow grafts.

TL;DR: Natural killer cells of inbred mice reject allogeneic bone marrow cells, and NK cells of F1 hybrid mice can reject parental bone‐marrow cells (hybrid resistance), which cannot be readily explained by the missing self hypothesis.
