Control charts are popular tools in the statistical process control toolkit and the exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) chart is one of its essential component for efficient process monitoring. In the present study, a new Bayesian Modified-EWMA chart is proposed for the monitoring of the location parameter in a process. Four various loss functions and a conjugate prior distribution are used in this study. The average run length is used as a performance evaluation tool for the proposed chart and its counterparts. The results advocate that the proposed chart performs very well for the monitoring of small to moderate shifts in the process and beats the existing counterparts. The significance of the proposed scheme has proved through two real-life examples: (1) For the monitoring of the reaming process which is used in the mechanical industry. (2) For the monitoring of golf ball performance in the sports industry.

A modified-mxEWMA location chart for the improved process monitoring using auxiliary information and its application in wood industry

The cumulative sum (CUSUM) and the exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) charts are renowned classical memory charts used to monitor small and moderate shifts in the process(s). Mixed memory charts like mixed EWMA-CUSUM (MEC) and mixed CUSUM-EWMA (MCE) are the advanced forms of classical memory charts used to identify shifts quickly in process parameters (location and/or dispersion). Similarly, the homogeneously weighted moving average (HWMA) chart is used for improved process monitoring. It will be worthwhile to combine the HWMA chart features with the existing mixed memory (MCE and MEC) charts to enhance the effectiveness of the mixed memory charts. Therefore, we proposed new charts: mixed HWMA-homogeneously CUSUM (MHWHC) and mixed homogeneously CUSUM-HWMA (MHCHW) charts. The Monte Carlo simulations are used to evaluate the proposed charts’ effectiveness. The average run length (ARL) is utilized to compare the proposed MHWHC and MHCHW charts’ performance with existing charts such as classical CUSUM and EWMA, MEC, MCE, and HWMA charts. The comparison revealed that the proposed mixed charts are superior to the existing counterparts, specifically monitoring small and moderate shifts. Finally, a real-life application using the manufacturing process’s data set is also provided from a practical point of view.

Homogeneously Mixed Memory Charts with Application in the Substrate Production Process

The nonparametric (NP) control charts are famous for detecting a shift in the process parameters (location and/or dispersion) when the underlying process characteristic does not follow the distributional assumptions. Similarly, when the cost of estimations is very high and the ranking of observational is relatively simple, the ranked set sampling (RSS) technique is preferred over the simple random sampling (SRS) technique. On the other hand, the NP triple exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control chart based on SRS is superior to the NP EWMA and NP double EWMA (NP DEWMA) based on the SRS technique to detect a shift in the process location. This study designed an advanced form of NP TEWMA Wilcoxon signed-rank based on RSS, denoted as control chart to identify a shift in the process location parameter. The Monte Carlo simulation method is used to assess the performance of the proposed control chart along with SRS-based NP TEWMA (TEWMA-SR), SRS-based NP TEWMA sign (TEWMA-SN), SRS-based , and RSS-based NP DEWMA-SR control charts. The study shows that the proposed control chart is more efficient in identifying shifts (especially in small shifts) in the process location than the existing control charts. Finally, a real-life application is also provided for the practical implementation of the proposed control chart.

A robust hybrid exponentially weighted moving average chart for monitoring time between events

Considerable research has been undertaken on the perception of people in district Kotli (Azad Kashmir) about the Govt. and private sector education institutions. A random sample of 400 parents/guardians had taken from district Kotli (Azad Kashmir) with stratified random sampling. SPSS was used for analysis of data. The graphical method, descriptive statistics, Chi-square test of association and MannWhitney U test was applied. People prefer private sector institutions as compared to the Govt. sector institutions because in the private sector syllabus is more up to dated and teaching staff is more regular and friendly. The teaching staffs in private sector make more efforts to the students as compared to the govt. sector. Fee structure of private institutions is very high and there is deficiency of sports activities in private institutions as compared to Govt. institutions. There is association of more qualified staff with i) confidence level of the student’s ii) successful life in future. Students from private sector proved to be more successful in future and they have the better chance for job in public offices.
