Does increased zinc uptake enhance grain zinc mass concentration in rice

TL;DR: It is concluded that there is too little scope from a human nutrition perspective to enhance ZnMC in rice endosperm by simply increasing the Zn supply to rice plants because Zn allocation to theendosperm is limited, while observed genotypic differences indicate scope for improvement through breeding.
Journal ArticleDOI

Uptake and distribution of root‐applied or foliar‐applied 65Zn after flowering in aerobic rice

TL;DR: It is suggested that in rice plants grown under sufficient or surplus Zn supply, most of the Zn accumulated in the grains originates from uptake by roots after flowering and not from Zn remobilisation from leaves.
Journal ArticleDOI

Why high seed densities within buried mesh bags may overestimate depletion rates of soil seed banks

TL;DR: Estimates of seed mortality rates may be too high because of an overestimation of the effects of soil or seed-borne pathogens, and models of seed bank dynamics based on such overestimated depletion rates may lead to incorrect conclusions regarding the seed banks and the management of weeds and rare species.
Journal ArticleDOI

Understanding and optimizing species mixtures using functional-structural plant modelling.

TL;DR: FSP models can integrate the interactions between structural and physiological plant responses to the local resource availability and strength of competition, which drive resource capture and growth of individuals in species mixtures and have the potential to accelerate mixed-species plant research.
Journal ArticleDOI

Long-term management of Striga hermonthica: strategy evaluation with a spatio-temporal population model

TL;DR: A spatially explicit, stochastic model was developed to study the effectiveness of control strategies in preventing invasion of S. hermonthica into previously uninfested fields and in reducing established infestations and it showed that only three out of eight life cycle parameters were of minor importance for seedbank dynamics and millet yield.
