Journal ArticleDOI

Mixed valency in rare-earth fullerides.

TL;DR: Using powerful crystallographic and spectroscopic techniques, a rich variety of temperature- and pressure-driven abrupt or continuous valence transitions are found—the electronically active fulleride sublattice acts as an electron reservoir that can accept electrons from or donate electrons to the rare-earth 4f/5d bands, thereby sensitively modulating the valence of the rare.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pressure-induced valence transition in the mixed-valence (Sm1/3Ca2/3)2.75C60 fulleride

TL;DR: In this paper, the electronic response of rare-earth fullerides to pressure was studied in the range 0.9 GPa and showed an abrupt strongly hysteretic (width ∼2.5 GPa) first-order reversible phase transition at ∼4 GPa, accompanied by a drastic increase in the bulk Sm valence by ∼20% to +2.71(3).
Journal ArticleDOI

Chemical tuning of samarium valence in mixed valence (Sm1-xCax)2.75C60 fullerides

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors use synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) at the Sm L3 edge at ambient conditions to authenticate the mixed valence character of the material by identifying two features due to distinct Sm2+ and Sm3+ components.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pressure-induced and flaring photocatalytic diversity of ZnO particles hallmarked by finely tuned pathways

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed description of the mechanism that mimics the formation of finely-tuned, spherical ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) at the computational level is presented.
