L-shell absorption spectrum of an open-M-shell germanium plasma: Comparison of experimental data with a detailed configuration-accounting calculation.

TL;DR: The radiative opacity of a near local thermodynamic equilibrium, open-M-shell Ge plasma has been measured and is compared for the first time with the results of a detailed configurafion-accounting calculation which includes an approximate treatment of term widths.
Journal ArticleDOI

High-Energy-Density, Laboratory-Astrophysics Studies of Jets and Bow Shocks

TL;DR: In this article, the first results of experiments designed to study the evolution of supersonic plasma jets and the bow shocks they drive into a surrounding medium were reported, revealing both regular and highly complex flow patterns in the bow shock, thus opening a new window to understand the nature of three-dimensional astrophysical jets.
Journal ArticleDOI

Observation of collapsing radiative shocks in laboratory experiments

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used laser irradiation to accelerate a thin layer of solid-density material to above 100km∕s, the first to probe such high velocities in a radiative shock.
Journal ArticleDOI

Absolute Equation-of-State Data in the 10–40 Mbar (1–4 TPa) Regime

TL;DR: In this paper, a technique has been developed that allows the measurement of equations of state of low-atomic-number materials in regimes of extremely high pressure, including polystyrene up to 40Mbar (60 times the previous absolutely measured pressure) and beryllium at pressures up to 15Mbar.
