Absorption experiments on x-ray-heated mid-Z constrained samples.
Ted Perry,P. T. Springer,D. F. Fields,D. R. Bach,F. J. D. Serduke,Carlos A. Iglesias,Forrest J. Rogers,J. K. Nash,M. H. Chen,Brian G. Wilson,William H. Goldstein,B. Rozsynai,R. A. Ward,J. D. Kilkenny,R. Doyas,L. B. Da Silva,Christina Back,R. C. Cauble,S. J. Davidson,John Foster,C.C. Smith,A. Bar-Shalom,Richard W. Lee +22 more
TL;DR: Results of a niobium absorption experiment are presented that represent a major step in the development of techniques necessary for the quantitative characterization of hot, dense matter.
Journal ArticleDOI
L-shell absorption spectrum of an open-M-shell germanium plasma: Comparison of experimental data with a detailed configuration-accounting calculation.
John Foster,D.J. Hoarty,C.C. Smith,Paula Rosen,S. J. Davidson,S. J. Rose,Ted Perry,F. J. D. Serduke +7 more
TL;DR: The radiative opacity of a near local thermodynamic equilibrium, open-M-shell Ge plasma has been measured and is compared for the first time with the results of a detailed configurafion-accounting calculation which includes an approximate treatment of term widths.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-Energy-Density, Laboratory-Astrophysics Studies of Jets and Bow Shocks
John Foster,B. H. Wilde,Paula Rosen,R. J. R. Williams,B. E. Blue,Robert Coker,R. P. Drake,Adam Frank,Paul Keiter,Alexei Khokhlov,J. P. Knauer,Ted Perry +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the first results of experiments designed to study the evolution of supersonic plasma jets and the bow shocks they drive into a surrounding medium were reported, revealing both regular and highly complex flow patterns in the bow shock, thus opening a new window to understand the nature of three-dimensional astrophysical jets.
Journal ArticleDOI
Observation of collapsing radiative shocks in laboratory experiments
A.B. Reighard,R. P. Drake,K. K. Dannenberg,D.J. Kremer,Michael Grosskopf,Eric Harding,David R. Leibrandt,S. G. Glendinning,Ted Perry,Bruce Remington,J. A. Greenough,J. P. Knauer,T. R. Boehly,Serge Bouquet,L. Boireau,M. Koenig,Tommaso Vinci +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used laser irradiation to accelerate a thin layer of solid-density material to above 100km∕s, the first to probe such high velocities in a radiative shock.
Journal ArticleDOI
Absolute Equation-of-State Data in the 10–40 Mbar (1–4 TPa) Regime
R. C. Cauble,Ted Perry,D. R. Bach,Kimberly S. Budil,B. A. Hammel,Gilbert Collins,D. M. Gold,James Dunn,Peter M. Celliers,L. B. Da Silva,Mark Foord,R. J. Wallace,Richard E. Stewart,Nigel Woolsey +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a technique has been developed that allows the measurement of equations of state of low-atomic-number materials in regimes of extremely high pressure, including polystyrene up to 40Mbar (60 times the previous absolutely measured pressure) and beryllium at pressures up to 15Mbar.
