Understanding base excess (BE): merits and pitfalls
TL;DR: Base excess introduced by Siggaard-Andersen in 1960 is introduced as an answer to the forty-year-long quest for a reliable, stand-alone marker of metabolic acidosis/alka-losis, independent from co-existing respiratory derangements, and able to quantify the severity of the disorder.

Journal ArticleDOI
Formation and quantification of protein complexes between peroxisomal alcohol oxidase and GroEL.
TL;DR: Formation of complexes between GroEL and denatured AO was demonstrated by a gel‐shift assay using non‐denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and quantified by laser‐densitometry of the gels.
