The Tomato Terpene Synthase Gene Family
Vasiliki Falara,Tariq A. Akhtar,Thuong T.H. Nguyen,Eleni A. Spyropoulou,Petra M. Bleeker,Ines Schauvinhold,Yuki Matsuba,Megan E. Bonini,Anthony L. Schilmiller,Robert C. Schuurink,Eran Pichersky +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the tomato genome contains 44 terpene synthase (TPS) genes, including 29 that are functional or potentially functional in at least some organs or tissues of the plant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evolution of a Complex Locus for Terpene Biosynthesis in Solanum
Yuki Matsuba,Thuong T.H. Nguyen,Krystle E. Wiegert,Vasiliki Falara,Eliana Gonzales-Vigil,Bryan J. Leong,Petra Schäfer,David Kudrna,Rod A. Wing,Anthony Bolger,Anthony Bolger,Björn Usadel,Björn Usadel,Alain Tissier,Alisdair R. Fernie,Cornelius S. Barry,Eran Pichersky +16 more
TL;DR: The Solanum functional gene cluster evolved by duplication and divergence of TPS genes, together with alterations in substrate specificity to utilize cis-prenyl diphosphates and through the acquisition of CPT genes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cytosolic monoterpene biosynthesis is supported by plastid-generated geranyl diphosphate substrate in transgenic tomato fruits
Michael Gutensohn,Irina Orlova,Thuong T.H. Nguyen,Rachel Davidovich-Rikanati,Mario G. Ferruzzi,Yaron Sitrit,Efraim Lewinsohn,Eran Pichersky,Natalia Dudareva +8 more
TL;DR: Snapdragon GPPS-SSU was over-expressed in tomato fruits under the control of the fruit ripening-specific polygalacturonase promoter to divert the metabolic flux from carotenoid formation towards GPP and monoterpene biosynthesis, suggesting that the produced GPP can be used by plastidic monoterspene synthases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enzymatic Functions of Wild Tomato Methylketone Synthases 1 and 2
Geng Yu,Thuong T.H. Nguyen,Yongxia Guo,Ines Schauvinhold,Michele E. Auldridge,Michele E. Auldridge,Nazmul H. Bhuiyan,Imri Ben-Israel,Yoko Iijima,Yoko Iijima,Eyal Fridman,Joseph P. Noel,Eran Pichersky +12 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that ShMKS2 acts as a thioesterase hydrolyzing 3-ketoacyl-acyl carrier proteins (plastid-localized intermediates of fatty acid biosynthesis) to release 3- Ketoacids and that ShmKS1 subsequently catalyzes the decarboxylation of these liberated 3- ketoacid products, forming the methylketone products.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multiple Biochemical and Morphological Factors Underlie the Production of Methylketones in Tomato Trichomes
Imri Ben-Israel,Geng Yu,Michael B. Austin,Nazmul H. Bhuiyan,Michele E. Auldridge,Thuong T.H. Nguyen,Ines Schauvinhold,Joseph P. Noel,Eran Pichersky,Eyal Fridman +9 more
TL;DR: Genetic analysis of interspecific populations derived from crosses between the wild tomato species Solanum habrochaites f.
