Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanical behavior of amorphous alloys
TL;DR: In this paper, a review of recent advances in understanding the mechanical behavior of metallic glasses, with particular emphasis on the deformation and fracture mechanisms, is presented, where the role of glass structure on mechanical properties, and conversely, the effect of deformation upon glass structure, are also described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deformation of metallic glasses: Recent developments in theory, simulations, and experiments
Journal ArticleDOI
Metallic glass matrix composite with precipitated ductile reinforcement
TL;DR: In this paper, a composite material consisting of precipitated micron-scale Ta-rich solid solution particles distributed in a bulk metallic glass matrix was reported, where reinforcing ductile particles were precipitated during melting of the master alloy of glass-forming (Zr70Ni10Cu20)82Ta8Al10).
Journal ArticleDOI
Enhanced plastic strain in Zr-based bulk amorphous alloys
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed an amorphous alloy, which exhibited an average macroscopic plastic strain of 4.5% before failure and showed no evidence for the presence of crystalline phases, and displays a distinct glass transition temperature and a wide supercooled liquid region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nanometre-scale defects in shear bands in a metallic glass
TL;DR: In this paper, the structure of shear bands with voids was compared with that of undeformed regions of a metallic glass, and it was shown that the coalescence is thermo-dynamically possible.
