Journal ArticleDOI
Frequent epigenetic inactivation of Wnt antagonist genes in breast cancer
Hiromu Suzuki,Minoru Toyota,Minoru Toyota,H Caraway,E. Gabrielson,Tousei Ohmura,Tomoko Fujikane,Noriko Nishikawa,Yohei Sogabe,Masanori Nojima,Tomoko Sonoda,Michio Mori,Koichi Hirata,Kohzoh Imai,Yasuhisa Shinomura,Stephen B. Baylin,Takashi Tokino +16 more
TL;DR: The results confirm the frequent methylation and silencing of Wnt antagonist genes in breast cancer, and suggest that their loss of function contributes to activated Wnt signalling in breast carcinogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Frequent epigenetic inactivation of DICKKOPF family genes in human gastrointestinal tumors.
Hironobu Sato,Hiromu Suzuki,Minoru Toyota,Masanori Nojima,Reo Maruyama,Shigeru Sasaki,Hideyasu Takagi,Yohei Sogabe,Yasushi Sasaki,Masashi Idogawa,Tomoko Sonoda,Mitsuru Mori,Kohzoh Imai,Takashi Tokino,Yasuhisa Shinomura +14 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that Dickkopfs (Dkks) are frequent targets of epigenetic silencing in gastrointestinal tumors, and that loss of DKKs may facilitate tumorigenesis through beta-catenin/T-cell factor-independent mechanisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
A case-control study of diet and prostate cancer in Japan: possible protective effect of traditional Japanese diet.
Tomoko Sonoda,Yoshie Nagata,Mitsuru Mori,Naoto Miyanaga,Naomi Takashima,Koji Okumura,Ken Goto,Seiji Naito,Kiyohide Fujimoto,Yoshihiro Hirao,Atsushi Takahashi,Taiji Tsukamoto,Tomoaki Fujioka,Hideyuki Akaza +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors performed a case-control study on dietary factors and prostate cancer in order to assess the hypothesis that the traditional Japanese diet reduces the risk of prostate cancer and found that consumption of fish, all soybean products, tofu (bean curds), and natto (fermented soybeans) was associated with decreased risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of DFNA5 as a target of epigenetic inactivation in gastric cancer
Kimishige Akino,Minoru Toyota,Minoru Toyota,Hiromu Suzuki,Takashi Imai,Reo Maruyama,Masanobu Kusano,Noriko Nishikawa,Yoshiyuki Watanabe,Yasushi Sasaki,Tamaki Abe,Eiichiro Yamamoto,Isao Tarasawa,Tomoko Sonoda,Mitsuru Mori,Kohzoh Imai,Yasuhisa Shinomura,Takashi Tokino +17 more
TL;DR: Data suggest that the silencing of DFNA5 occurs frequently in gastric cancer and may play a key role in development and progression of the disease.
Journal Article
Dietary habits and cancer mortality among middle aged and older Japanese living in hokkaido, Japan by cancer site and sex.
Mobarak Hossain Khan,Ryoichi Goto,Kota Kobayashi,Shigeo Suzumura,Yoshie Nagata,Tomoko Sonoda,Fumio Sakauchi,Masakazu Washio,Mitsuru Mori +8 more
TL;DR: A wide variation in the impact of dietary factors by sex and cancer site is indicated, pointing to a necessity for careful interpretation in the contribution of individual dietary factors to development of human cancers in Hokkaido, Japan.
