Journal ArticleDOI
Frequent epigenetic inactivation of SFRP genes and constitutive activation of Wnt signaling in gastric cancer.
Masanori Nojima,Hiromu Suzuki,Minoru Toyota,Minoru Toyota,Yoshiyuki Watanabe,Reo Maruyama,Shigeru Sasaki,Yasushi Sasaki,Hiroaki Mita,Noriko Nishikawa,Koji Yamaguchi,Koichi Hirata,Fumio Itoh,Takashi Tokino,Mitsuru Mori,Kohzoh Imai,Yasuhisa Shinomura +16 more
TL;DR: Analysis of global expression revealed that overexpression of SFRP2 repressed Wnt target genes and induced changes in the expression of numerous genes related to proliferation, growth and apoptosis in GC cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of DFNA5 as a target of epigenetic inactivation in gastric cancer
Kimishige Akino,Minoru Toyota,Minoru Toyota,Hiromu Suzuki,Takashi Imai,Reo Maruyama,Masanobu Kusano,Noriko Nishikawa,Yoshiyuki Watanabe,Yasushi Sasaki,Tamaki Abe,Eiichiro Yamamoto,Isao Tarasawa,Tomoko Sonoda,Mitsuru Mori,Kohzoh Imai,Yasuhisa Shinomura,Takashi Tokino +17 more
TL;DR: Data suggest that the silencing of DFNA5 occurs frequently in gastric cancer and may play a key role in development and progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sensitive and Specific Detection of Early Gastric Cancer with DNA Methylation Analysis of Gastric Washes
Yoshiyuki Watanabe,Yoshiyuki Watanabe,Hyun Soo Kim,Hyun Soo Kim,Ryan J. Castoro,Woonbok Chung,Marcos R. Estecio,Kimie Kondo,Yi Guo,Saira Ahmed,Minoru Toyota,Fumio Itoh,Ki Tae Suk,Mee Yon Cho,Lanlan Shen,Jaroslav Jelinek,Jean Pierre J. Issa +16 more
TL;DR: Findings suggest MINT25 is a sensitive and specific marker for screening in gastric cancer, and a new method for Gastric cancer detection by DNA methylation in Gastric washes is developed.
Journal ArticleDOI
IGFBP7 is a p53-responsive gene specifically silenced in colorectal cancer with CpG island methylator phenotype.
Hiromu Suzuki,Shinichi Igarashi,Masanori Nojima,Reo Maruyama,Eiichiro Yamamoto,Masahiro Kai,Hirofumi Akashi,Yoshiyuki Watanabe,Hiroyuki Yamamoto,Yasushi Sasaki,Fumio Itoh,Kohzoh Imai,Tamotsu Sugai,Lanlan Shen,Jean Pierre J. Issa,Yasuhisa Shinomura,Takashi Tokino,Minoru Toyota +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the epigenetic inactivation of insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 7 (IGFBP7) expression in colorectal cancers was examined, and it was found that the silencing of IGFBP7 expression was correlated with high levels of DNA methylation and low levels of histone H3K4 methylation.
Journal ArticleDOI
PRDM5 identified as a target of epigenetic silencing in colorectal and gastric cancer.
Yoshiyuki Watanabe,Minoru Toyota,Yutaka Kondo,Hiromu Suzuki,Takashi Imai,Mutsumi Ohe-Toyota,Reo Maruyama,Masanori Nojima,Yasushi Sasaki,Yoshitaka Sekido,Hiroyoshi Hiratsuka,Yasuhisa Shinomura,Kohzoh Imai,Fumio Itoh,Takashi Tokino +14 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that epigenetic alteration of PRDM5 likely plays a key role in the progression of gastrointestinal cancers and may be a useful molecular marker.
