Incidence, characteristics and outcome of ICU-acquired candidemia in India
Arunaloke Chakrabarti,Prashant Sood,Shivaprakash M Rudramurthy,Sharon C.-A. Chen,Harsimran Kaur,Malini R. Capoor,Deepinder Chhina,Ratna Rao,Vandana Kalwaje Eshwara,Immaculata Xess,Anupama Kindo,P. Umabala,Jayanthi Savio,Atul Patel,Ujjwayini Ray,Sangeetha Mohan,Ranganathan N Iyer,Jagdish Chander,Anita Arora,Raman Sardana,Indranil Roy,B. Appalaraju,Ajanta Sharma,Anjali Shetty,Neelam Khanna,Rungmei S. K. Marak,Sanjay Biswas,Shukla Das,Belgode Narasimha Harish,Sangeeta Joshi,Deepak Kumar Mendiratta +30 more
TL;DR: A high burden of candidemia in Indian ICUs, early onset after ICU admission, higher risk despite less severe physiology score at admission and a vast spectrum of agents causing the disease with predominance of C. tropicalis is highlighted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk Factors for Preterm Birth and Low Birth Weight Among Pregnant Indian Women: A Hospital-based Prospective Study
Chaitanya Tellapragada,Vandana Kalwaje Eshwara,Parvati Bhat,Shashidhar Acharya,Asha Kamath,Shashikala Bhat,Chythra R Rao,Sathisha Nayak,Chiranjay Mukhopadhyay +8 more
TL;DR: The study findings underscore the need to consider screening for potential genitourinary and periodontal infections during routine antenatal care in developing countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
A global priority list of the TOp TEn resistant Microorganisms (TOTEM) study at intensive care: a prioritization exercise based on multi-criteria decision analysis.
Jordi Rello,Vandana Kalwaje Eshwara,Leo Lagunes,Joana Alves,Richard G. Wunderink,Andrew Conway-Morris,Jose Nicolas Rojas,Emine Alp,Zhongheng Zhang +8 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that education, investigation, funding, and development of new antimicrobials for ICU organisms should focus on carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative organisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antifungal Susceptibility Patterns, In Vitro Production of Virulence Factors, and Evaluation of Diagnostic Modalities for the Speciation of Pathogenic Candida from Blood Stream Infections and Vulvovaginal Candidiasis
Chaitanya Tellapragada,Vandana Kalwaje Eshwara,Ruqaiyah Johar,Tushar Shaw,Nidhi Malik,Parvati Bhat,Asha Kamath,Chiranjay Mukhopadhyay +7 more
TL;DR: There was an overall increase in the production of virulence factors among non-albicans Candida, and identification of clinical isolates of Candida up to species level either by chromogenic agar or by Vitek 2 Compact system should be routinely done to choose appropriate therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microbial quality of well water from rural and urban households in Karnataka, India: a cross-sectional study.
Chiranjay Mukhopadhyay,Shashidhar Vishwanath,Vandana Kalwaje Eshwara,Shamanth A. Shankaranarayana,Afrin Sagir +4 more
TL;DR: It might be prudent to monitor the bacteriological quality of well water at the source in addition to resistance profiles of the isolates, because a significant number of isolates were multi-drug resistant, which is a cause of concern.
