Journal ArticleDOI
Opposition Effect of Asteroids
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the opposition effect behavior of 33 asteroids with well-measured magnitude-phase curves and found that surface albedo is the main factor influencing the amplitude and width of the asteroid opposition effect.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spin rate distribution of small asteroids
Petr Pravec,Alan W. Harris,David Vokrouhlický,Brian D. Warner,Peter Kusnirak,Kamil Hornoch,Donald P. Pray,David Higgins,Julian Oey,Adrian Galad,Štefan Gajdoš,Leonard Kornoš,Jozef Vilagi,Marek Husárik,Yu. N. Krugly,Vasilij G. Shevchenko,Vasilij G. Chiorny,N. Gaftonyuk,Walter R. Cooney,John Gross,Dirk Terrell,Robert D. Stephens,R. R. Dyvig,Vishnu Reddy,J. G. Ries,François Colas,J. Lecacheux,R. Durkee,Gianluca Masi,R. A. Koff,Rui Soles Gonçalves +30 more
TL;DR: The observed distribution appears to be controlled by the Yarkovsky-O'Keefe-Radzievskii-Paddack (YORP) effect as mentioned in this paper, and the magnitude of the excess of slow rotators is related to the residence time of slowed down asteroids in the excess and the rate of spin rate change outside the excess.
Journal ArticleDOI
Two-Period Lightcurves of 1996 FG3, 1998 PG, and (5407) 1992 AX: One Probable and Two Possible Binary Asteroids
Petr Pravec,Lenka Šarounová,David L. Rabinowitz,Michael D. Hicks,Marek Wolf,Yurij N. Krugly,F. P. Velichko,Vasilij G. Shevchenko,Vasilij G. Chiorny,N. M. Gaftonyuk,Guy Genevier +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the results of photometric observations of 1996 FG3, 1998 PG, and (5407) 1992 AX, and estimate the following parameters of the binary system: the primary's rotation period is P1=(3.5942±0.0002) h, the system's orbital period is 2P2=(16.135± 0.005) h.
Journal ArticleDOI
Asteroid observations at low phase angles. IV: Average parameters for the new H, G1, G2 magnitude system
Vasilij G. Shevchenko,Irina Belskaya,Karri Muinonen,Karri Muinonen,Antti Penttilä,Yurij N. Krugly,F. P. Velichko,Vasilij G. Chiorny,I. Slyusarev,N. M. Gaftonyuk,I. A. Tereschenko +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented new observational data for selected main-belt asteroids of different compositional types, including low-albedo asteroids, and determined the values of the G1 and G2 parameters for magnitude phase dependences of individual asteroids.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Near-Earth Objects Follow-up Program. IV. CCD Photometry in 1996-1999
Yu. N. Krugly,Irina Belskaya,Vasilij G. Shevchenko,Vasilij G. Chiorny,F. P. Velichko,Stefano Mottola,Anders Erikson,Gerhard Hahn,A. Nathues,Gerhard Neukum,N. M. Gaftonyuk,E. Dotto +11 more
TL;DR: Lightcurve observations of 16 near-Earth objects (NEOs) and 2 Mars-crossers in 1996-1999 from three observational sites are presented in this paper, where the authors were able to determine rotation periods for 14 asteroids.
