Lymphangiomas and lymphangiomyomas are benign abnormal collections of lymphatic vessels which form a cystic mass. The mediastinum is an uncommon location for these hamartomas in children, but may be life-threatening. We report herein the case of a 23-month-old boy who presented with stridor and a history of recurrent respiratory tract infections. Soon after his admission he suddenly developed respiratory failure and was found to have a multiloculated cystic mediastinal mass which was initially thought to be a lymphangioma. The mass was extensively infiltrative, and histological examination showed prominent smooth muscle proliferation in the walls of the cysts, confirming a diagnosis of lymphangiomyoma. The terminology and relevant literature on the topic are reviewed following the presentation of this case.

But: L'infertilite chez les patients avec des valves de l'uretre posterieur (PUV) est connue mais l'incidence exacte et l'etiologie est encore non claire. Elle peut etre due a une dysfonction partielle des organes genitaux. Le but de cette etude est d'analyser le profil hormonal post-pubere des patients avec PUV. Materiel et Methodes: Tous les patients post-puberes traites pour des valves de l'uretre posterieur (âge > 16 ans) suivis dans le departement d'urologie de 1985 a 1999 etaient contactes et requis pour participer a l'etude; 9 patients etaient d'accord et forment le groupe d'etude. Les observations medicales etaient revues. Un examen clinique incluait l'examen des organes genitaux et des caracteres sexuels secondaires. Des examens biologiques etaient realises pour apprecier l'hormone lutenique (LH), la FSH, la prolactine et la testosterone. Resultats: L'âge varie de 16 a 21 ans (âge moyen = 17.5). L'examen clinique etait normal dans le groupe entier, a l'exception de 2 patients. Un des patients avait une hypertension et l'autre une ectopie testiculaire unilaterale au moment de l'examen. les caracteres sexuels secondaires etaient normaux chez tous les patients. Au moment de l'examen, l'un des patients avait une insuffisance renale chronique et chez les autres, la fonction renale etait normale. Le taux de LH et de testosterone etait normal chez tous les patients, incluant le patient avec une ectopie testiculaire unilaterale, et un patient avait une elevation moderee de FSH. Une hyperprolactinemie etait notee chez 5 des 9 patients. Conclusion: Dans cette etude, l'hyperprolactinemie est vue chez 62% (5/9) des patients. L'hyperprolactinemie est connue pour causer une ejaculation lente et peut avoir un impact sur la fertilite de ces patients. Les consequences de ces decouvertes sur les fonctions sexuelles et la fertilite de ces patients avec PUV necessitent des investigations complementaires.

A full term neonate was operated for diaphragmatic eventration through the chest. Postoperatively the baby developed gastric outlet obstruction. Ultrasonography and barium meal examination were suggestive of extrinsic compression in the region of the pylorus. At laparotomy a gall bladder perforation was found producing a biloma just abve the pylorus. Drainage of the bilioma and temporary cholecystostomy cured the gastric outlet obstruction.
