Journal ArticleDOI
Long-Term Efficacy and Safety of Protease Inhibitor Switching to Nevirapine in HIV-Infected Patients with Undetectable Virus Load
Paloma Gil,Miguel Górgolas,Vicente Estrada,Alberto Arranz,Pablo Rivas,Carmen Yera,Rosa García,Juan José Granizo,Manuel L. Fernández-Guerrero +8 more
TL;DR: The switching of a PI to nevirapine is a safe and well-tolerated option for maintaining long-term virological suppression and immunological control, and rates of hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia improved, although normal cholesterol and triglyceride values were not achieved.
Journal ArticleDOI
Concomitant use of an active boosted protease inhibitor with enfuvirtide in treatment-experienced, HIV-infected individuals: recent data and consensus recommendations
Mike Youle,Schlomo Staszweski,Bonaventura Clotet,Jose R. Arribas,Anders Blaxhult,Giampiero Carosi,Edwin DeJesus,Gianni Di Perri,Vicente Estrada,Martin Fisher,Colin Kovacs,Ranjababu Kulasegaram,Adriano Lazzarin,Deborah Marriott,Leopoldo Muñoz,Jacques Reynes,Peter Shalit,Jihad Slim,Chris Tsoukas,Anthony Vaccaro,José Vera +20 more
TL;DR: The present data support the combination of an active boosted protease inhibitor with an agent from a new class (e.g., ENF) for triple-class-experienced patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of switching from stavudine to raltegravir on subcutaneous adipose tissue in HIV-infected patients with HIV/HAART-associated lipodystrophy syndrome (HALS). A clinical and molecular study.
Pere Domingo,Maria del Mar Gutierrez,José M. Gallego-Escuredo,Ferran Torres,Gracia Mateo,Joan Villarroya,Ignacio Santos,Joan Carles Domingo,Francesc Villarroya,Luis Del Rio,Vicente Estrada,Marta Giralt +11 more
TL;DR: Switching from d4T to RAL in patients with HALS is associated with an increase in limb fat mass and an improvement in markers of adipocyte differentiation and mitochondrial function in SAT.
Journal ArticleDOI
Peripheral T follicular helper Cells Make a Difference in HIV Reservoir Size between Elite Controllers and Patients on Successful cART.
Marcial García,Miguel Górgolas,Alfonso Cabello,Vicente Estrada,José M. Ligos,Manuel L. Fernández-Guerrero,Carlos Barros,Juan Carlos López-Bernaldo,Francisco Javier de la Hera,María C. Montoya,José Miguel Benito,Norma Rallón +11 more
TL;DR: The EC patients showed smaller HIV reservoir in memory CD4+ cells, especially in the pTfh subset, a population of cells with a pivotal role in the antiviral immune response, suggesting a potential link between low levels of infection in pTFh cells and the ability of the EC patients to spontaneously control HIV replication.
Journal ArticleDOI
COVID-19 anosmia and gustatory symptoms as a prognosis factor: a subanalysis of the HOPE COVID-19 (Health Outcome Predictive Evaluation for COVID-19) registry.
Jesús Porta-Etessam,Jesús Porta-Etessam,Jesús Porta-Etessam,Iván J. Núñez-Gil,Nuria González García,Cristina Fernández-Pérez,María C Viana-Llamas,Charbel Maroun Eid,Rodolfo Romero,María Molina,Aitor Uribarri,Víctor Manuel Becerra-Muñoz,Marcos García Aguado,Jia Huang,Elisa Rondano,Enrico Cerrato,Emilio Alfonso,Alex Fernando Castro Mejía,Francisco Marín,Sergio Raposeiras Roubín,Martino Pepe,Gisela Feltes,Paloma Maté,Bernardo Cortese,Luis Buzón,Jorge Luis Jativa Mendez,Vicente Estrada +26 more
TL;DR: Olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions (OGD) are a frequent symptom of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) It has been proposed that the neuroinvasive potential of the novel SARS-CoV-2 could be due to olfactory bulb invasion, conversely studies suggest it could be a good prognostic factor.
