Journal ArticleDOI
Chromosomal mapping of rDNAs and H3 histone sequences in the grasshopper rhammatocerus brasiliensis (acrididae, gomphocerinae): extensive chromosomal dispersion and co-localization of 5S rDNA/H3 histone clusters in the A complement and B chromosome
Nathalia Lopes de Oliveira,Diogo Cavalcanti Cabral-de-Mello,Marília de França Rocha,Vilma Loreto,Cesar Martins,Rita de Cássia de Moura +5 more
TL;DR: A linked organization for the 5S rRNA and H3 histone multigene families investigated in R. brasiliensis is indicated, reinforcing previous data concerning the association of both genes in some insect groups and contributing to understanding the organization/evolution of multigenes families in the insect genomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Possible autosomal origin of macro B chromosomes in two grasshopper species
Vilma Loreto,Vilma Loreto,Josefa Cabrero,María Dolores López-León,Juan Pedro M. Camacho,Maria José de Souza +5 more
TL;DR: The occurrence of B chromosomes in all nine R. brasiliensis populations analyzed indicates that they are widely distributed in Northeastern Brazil, and the small amount of interpopulation variation found for B chromosome prevalence suggests the existence of high gene flow, presumably due to the abundance of this grasshopper species on several types of vegetation and its relatively high flight capability.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative analysis of rDNA location in five Neotropical gomphocerine grasshopper species
Vilma Loreto,Vilma Loreto,Josefa Cabrero,María Dolores López-León,Juan Pedro M. Camacho,Maria José de Souza +5 more
TL;DR: Comparison of these results with those reported previously in Palearctic gomphocerine species suggests higher resemblance of Neotropical species with the Old World species also possessing 23/24 chromosomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Centromeric enrichment of LINE-1 retrotransposons and its significance for the chromosome evolution of Phyllostomid bats
Cibele G. Sotero-Caio,Cibele G. Sotero-Caio,Diogo Cavalcanti Cabral-de-Mello,Merilane da Silva Calixto,Merilane da Silva Calixto,Guilherme Targino Valente,Cesar Martins,Vilma Loreto,Maria José de Souza,Neide Santos +9 more
TL;DR: It is hypothesized that LINE-1 expansions on centromeric heterochromatin probably spurred chromosomal change before the radiation of phyllostomids into the extant 11 subfamilies and contributed to the high degree of karyotypic variation observed among different lineages.
Journal ArticleDOI
Satellite DNAs Unveil Clues about the Ancestry and Composition of B Chromosomes in Three Grasshopper Species
Diogo Milani,Vanessa Bellini Bardella,Ana B. S. M. Ferretti,Octavio M. Palacios-Gimenez,Octavio M. Palacios-Gimenez,Adriana de Souza Melo,Rita de Cássia de Moura,Vilma Loreto,Hojun Song,Diogo Cavalcanti Cabral-de-Mello +9 more
TL;DR: The satDNAs shared among A and B chromosomes support the idea of putative intraspecific ancestry from small autosomes in the three species, i.e., pair S11 in R. brasiliensis, pair S9 in S. rubiginosa, and pair S10 in X. d.
