Radio access technologies for cellular mobile communications are typically characterized by multiple access schemes, e.g., frequency division multiple access (FDMA), time division multiple access (TDMA), code division multiple access (CDMA), and OFDMA. Millimeter-wave multiple-input multiple-output (mmWave MIMO) has emerged as a viable technique for 5G and beyond 5G(B5G) wireless networks, promising higher spectral efficiency and increased data speeds. However, achieving high spectral efficiency and data rates requires precise channel estimation, which is difficult for mmWave MIMO due to scattering and blockages in general. Because of scattering and blockages, mmWave MIMO channels have intrinsic sparsity, which needs sparse-aware channel estimation algorithms. As a result, this work propose a variable step-size zero-attracting least mean squares (VSSZALMS) based channel-estimator. In VSSZALMS the step-size increases (or decreases) as the mean-square error (MSE) increases (or decreases) that’s result adaptive estimator based on VSSZALMS achieves better tracking and faster convergence rate. Convergence and steady-state behavior of estimator is analyzed. Simulations for a typical mmWave MIMO channels demonstrate the benefits of the proposed sparse channel-estimation approach and its convergence.

Deployment of optical network infrastructure and network services is growing exponentially for beyond 5G networks. Since the uptake of e-commerce and e-services has seen unprecedented serge in recent months due to the global COVID-19 pandemic era, the security of such transactions in optical communication has gained much importance. Optical fiber communication networks are vulnerable to several types of security threats, such as single point failure, wormhole attacks, and sybil attacks. Therefore, blockchain is a promising solution to protect confidential information against attacks and helps in achieving trusted network architecture by creating a distributed ledger platform. Recently, blockchain has received much attention because of its decentralized and distributed ledger technology. Hence, blockchain has also been employed to protect network against such attacks. However, blockchain technology's security relies on the platform of computational complexity, and because of the evolution of quantum computers, it will become insecure in the near future. Therefore, for enhancing blockchain security, research focus on combining quantum key distribution (QKD) with blockchain. This new technology is known as quantum-secured blockchain. The article describes the attacks in optical networks and provides a solution to protect network against security attacks by employing quantum-secured blockchain in optical networks. It provides a brief overview of blockchain technology with its security loopholes and focuses on QKD, which makes blockchain technology more robust against quantum-attacks. Next, the article provides a broad view of quantum-secured blockchain and presents the network architecture for future research and development of secure and trusted optical communication networks using quantum-secured blockchain.

Securing Optical Networks using Quantum-secured Blockchain: An Overview

To meet the ever growing demand of high data rates, employing large number of antennas at the transmitter and receiver is a key feature of future advanced wireless systems. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems can provide high data rates with high spectral efficiency and have opened a new gateway in wireless systems. However, design of an efficient, robust and non-erroneous detection algorithm is a huge challenge in MIMO systems. In this paper, a hybrid algorithm has been proposed for large scale MIMO detection. The proposed algorithm is motivated by the popular firefly algorithm and dijkstra's shortest path algorithm. Simulation results reveal that the proposed hybrid algorithm outperforms the conventional zero forcing, minimum mean square error and successive interference cancellation based MIMO detection techniques in terms of bit error rate (BER) performance and achieves near maximum likelihood BER performance. This makes the proposed algorithm an appropriate candidate for reliable detection in large-MIMO systems.

A near-ML performance hybrid dijkstra and firefly algorithm for large MIMO detection

In this paper performance analysis of space frequency block codes (SFBC) and maximum ratio receiver combining (MRRC) is compared for long term evolution (LTE) Release 9 network in the presence of co-channel interference (CCI). The performance of transmit diversity scheme i.e., SFBC in the downlink is analyzed with respect to the receiver diversity technique MRRC and also with respect to the single antenna system over MIMO fading channels. Average bit error rate is evaluated to determine the system throughput. LTE channel models like extended vehicular channel and extended typical urban channels are considered as they are more prone to CCI for evaluating the performance of diversity schemes for different Doppler frequencies. Useful insights are drawn from the simulation results.
