Deposits of clastic carbonate-dominated (calciclastic) sedimentary slope systems in the rock record have been identified mostly as linearly-consistent carbonate apron deposits, even though most ancient clastic carbonate slope deposits fit the submarine fan systems better. Calciclastic submarine fans are consequently rarely described and are poorly understood. Subsequently, very little is known especially in mud-dominated calciclastic submarine fan systems. Presented in this study are a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) that reveals a >250 m thick calciturbidite complex deposited in a calciclastic submarine fan setting. Seven facies are recognised from core and thin section characterisation and are grouped into three carbonate turbidite sequences. They include: 1) Calciturbidites, comprising mostly of highto low-density, wavy-laminated bioclast-rich facies; 2) low-density densite mudstones which are characterised by planar laminated and unlaminated muddominated facies; and 3) Calcidebrites which are muddy or hyper-concentrated debrisflow deposits occurring as poorly-sorted, chaotic, mud-supported floatstones. Nano based drug delivery systems: recent developments and future prospects

Numerous species of soil bacteria which flourish in the rhizosphere of plants, but which may grow in, on, or around plant tissues, stimulate plant growth by a plethora of mechanisms. These bacteria are collectively known as PGPR (plant growth promoting rhizobacteria). The search for PGPR and investigation of their modes of action are increasing at a rapid pace as efforts are made to exploit them commercially as biofertilizers. After an initial clarification of the term biofertilizers and the nature of associations between PGPR and plants (i.e., endophytic versus rhizospheric), this review focuses on the known, the putative, and the speculative modes-of-action of PGPR. These modes of action include fixing N2, increasing the availability of nutrients in the rhizosphere, positively influencing root growth and morphology, and promoting other beneficial plant–microbe symbioses. The combination of these modes of actions in PGPR is also addressed, as well as the challenges facing the more widespread utilization of PGPR as biofertilizers.

Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria as biofertilizers

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are the rhizosphere bacteria that can enhance plant growth by a wide variety of mechanisms like phosphate solubilization, siderophore production, biological nitrogen fixation, rhizosphere engineering, production of 1-Aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase (ACC), quorum sensing (QS) signal interference and inhibition of biofilm formation, phytohormone production, exhibiting antifungal activity, production of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), induction of systemic resistance, promoting beneficial plant-microbe symbioses, interference with pathogen toxin production etc. The potentiality of PGPR in agriculture is steadily increased as it offers an attractive way to replace the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and other supplements. Growth promoting substances are likely to be produced in large quantities by these rhizosphere microorganisms that influence indirectly on the overall morphology of the plants. Recent progress in our understanding on the diversity of PGPR in the rhizosphere along with their colonization ability and mechanism of action should facilitate their application as a reliable component in the management of sustainable agricultural system. The progress to date in using the rhizosphere bacteria in a variety of applications related to agricultural improvement along with their mechanism of action with special reference to plant growth-promoting traits are summarized and discussed in this review.

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR): emergence in agriculture

Relevant feature identification has become an essential task to apply data mining algorithms effectively in real-world scenarios. Therefore, many feature selection methods have been proposed to obtain the relevant feature or feature subsets in the literature to achieve their objectives of classification and clustering. This paper introduces the concepts of feature relevance, general procedures, evaluation criteria, and the characteristics of feature selection. A comprehensive overview, categorization, and comparison of existing feature selection methods are also done, and the guidelines are also provided for user to select a feature selection algorithm without knowing the information of each algorithm. We conclude this work with real world applications, challenges, and future research directions of feature selection.

Feature Selection: A literature Review

Phosphate-solubilizing strains of A. chroococcum isolated from the wheat rhizosphere were evaluated for their ability to solubilize tricalcium phosphate (TCP), Mussoorie rock phosphate (MRP) and also for indole-acetic-acid (IAA) production. Strains were selected on the basis of the clearance zone on solid agar media of Pikovskaya and Jensen's media containing TCP, and phosphate solubilization in Jensen's liquid culture medium containing both TCP and MRP. Mutants of the best phosphate-solubilizing (TCP 1.52 μg ml–1 MRP 0.19 μg ml–1), IAA-producing A. chroococum strain P-4, were developed and screened for P solubilization and phytohormone production. Five mutants solubilized more P (in the range of 1.5–1.7 μg/ml–1 of TCP and 0.19–0.22 μg ml–1 of MRP) than the parent strains. In vitro growth emergence studies of three wheat varieties, viz. C-306, WH-542 and HD-2009, showed better performance with phosphate-solubilizing mutants than with the parent strain.

Solubilization of inorganic phosphates and growth emergence of wheat as affected by Azotobacter chroococcum mutants

The discovery of camptothecin and its analogs was the major breakthrough through which “Indolizine moiety” came into limelight. Although major part of the research on indolizine derivatives is focused on anticancer drug discovery, these derivatives have also been screened for different biological activities such as antitubercular, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory activities to name a few. Despite being an important medicinal moiety, a detailed review on the biologically active potential of indolizine derivative is unavailable. To the best of our knowledge, previous reviews on indolizine derivatives mainly focused on their chemistry and synthesis. The present review discusses the versatile nature of indolizine derivatives and their possible mechanism of action. Important SAR points are discussed with each study to highlight the rationale behind the study. Furthermore, the present review also provides information about current/future prospects of the topic and different indolizine derivatives in clinical trials.

Indolizine: a biologically active moiety

Ca 5 (PO 4 ) 3 (OH) (HAP) supported metal (Ru, Pt, Pd, Cu and Ni) catalysts were examined for vapour phase hydrogenation of aqueous levulinic acid (LA). Ru/HAP demonstrated higher TOF of γ-valerolactone (gVL) over the other metal catalysts. The LA dehydration products such as angelica lactones (both α- and β-AL) were formed significantly over Pt, Pd, Ni and Cu/HAP catalysts. Influence of Bronsted and Lewis acid sites was exemplified by pyridine adsorbed FT-IR studies on Ru/HAP that exhibited very weak band due to Bronsted sites at 1552 cm −1 and a strong band at 1450 cm −1 attributed to Lewis acid sites. Ru supported on SO 4 2−_ HAP demonstrated selective dehydration of LA to α-angelica lactone. Hydrogenation activity of Ru was diminished while supported on SO 4 2− -HAP, quite contrast to this the fresh HAP behaved as a selective support for Ru towards GVL formation. Thus, HAP has been identified as suitable support for Ru in the conversion of LA at ambient pressure.
