Proton acceleration by trapping in a relativistic laser driven uphill plasma snowplow
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore a novel regime of proton and ion acceleration off of overdense plasma created by a laser pulse and derive analytical expressions for the snowplow velocity and its dependence on the parameter space.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
The physical picture of beam loading in the blowout regime
Michail Tzoufras,Wei Lu,Frank Tsung,Chengkun Huang,Warren Mori,Jorge Vieira,Ricardo Fonseca,L. O. Silva +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the feasibility of laser/plasma wakefield accelerators depends on the ability to efficiently load a bunch of electrons to the wakefield driven by a laser or an electron beam propagating through a plasma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Shaping trailing beams for beam loading via beam-induced-ionization injection at FACET
Ligia Diana Amorim,N. Vafaei-Najafabadi,Claudio Emma,Christine Clarke,S. Z. Green,D. Storey,Glen White,Brendan O'Shea,Mark Hogan,Vitaly Yakimenko,Michael Litos,Gaurav Raj,Olena Kononenko,Pablo San Miguel Claveria,Sebastien Corde,Spencer Gessner,Xinlu Xu,K. A. Marsh,C. E. Clayton,Chan Joshi,Warren Mori,Erik Adli +21 more
TL;DR: In this article, the beam-induced ionization injection was used to shape and inject a trailing beam suitable for beam loading in a particle-in-cell numerical simulations done with OSIRIS.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
A proposal for a 1 GeV plasma-wakefield acceleration experiment at SLAC
Tom Katsouleas,Seung Lee,Subhasis Chattopadhyay,W. Leemand,R. Assmann,Pisin Chen,Franz-Josef Decker,R. H. Iverson,T. Kotseroglou,P. Raimondi,Tor Raubenheimer,S. Eokni,Robert H. Siemann,D.R. Walz,D. Whittum,C. E. Clayton,Chan Joshi,K. A. Marsh,Warren Mori,G. Wang +19 more
TL;DR: In this article, a plasma-based wakefield acceleration (PWFA) experiment is proposed that will accelerate parts of an SLC bunch by up to 1 GeV/m over a length of 1 m. The one meter length of the experiment is about two orders of magnitude larger than other high gradient PWFA experiments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proposal for a one GeV plasma wakefield acceleration experiment at SLAC
R.W. Assmann,Pisin Chen,F.-J. Decker,R. Iverson,P. Raimondi,Tor Raubenheimer,Sayed Rokni,Robert H. Siemann,D. Walz,D.H. Whittum,Subhasis Chattopadhyay,Wim Leemans,Tom Katsouleas,Seung Lee,C. E. Clayton,Chan Joshi,K. A. Marsh,Warren Mori,G.H. Wang +18 more
TL;DR: A plasma-based wakefield acceleration experiment E-157 has been proposed at SLAC to study acceleration of parts of an SLC bunch by up to 1 ǫ/m over a length of 1 m.
