A symplectic integration algorithm for separable Hamiltonian functions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors derive an algorithm to numerically integrate differential equations derivable from a separable Hamiltonian function, which preserves exactly the Poincare-Cartan integral invariants associated with the topology of the phase flow.
Journal ArticleDOI

Absorption of short laser pulses on solid targets in the ultrarelativistic regime.

TL;DR: The first direct measurements of total absorption of short laser pulses on solid targets in the ultrarelativistic regime are reported, showing an enhanced absorption at intensities above 10(20) W/cm(2), reaching 60% for near-normal incidence and 80%-90% for 45 degrees incidence.
Journal ArticleDOI

Theoretical model of x-ray scattering as a dense matter probe.

TL;DR: Analytical expressions for the dynamic structure factor, or form factor S(k,omega), which is the quantity describing the x-ray cross section from a dense plasma or a simple liquid, can be applied to describe scattering from either weakly coupled classical plasmas or degenerate electron liquids.

Magnetic reconnection and plasma dynamics in two beam laser-solid interactions

TL;DR: Measurements of a magnetic reconnection in a plasma created by two laser beams focused in close proximity on a planar solid target show Thomson scattering measurements from the reconnection layer are consistent with high electron temperatures in this region.
