Absorption of short laser pulses on solid targets in the ultrarelativistic regime.
Yuan Ping,Ronnie Shepherd,Barbara F. Lasinski,Max Tabak,H. Chen,Hyun-Kyung Chung,K. B. Fournier,Stephanie Hansen,Andreas Kemp,Duane A. Liedahl,Klaus Widmann,Scott Wilks,Wojciech Rozmus,Mark Sherlock +13 more
TL;DR: The first direct measurements of total absorption of short laser pulses on solid targets in the ultrarelativistic regime are reported, showing an enhanced absorption at intensities above 10(20) W/cm(2), reaching 60% for near-normal incidence and 80%-90% for 45 degrees incidence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hot-spot mix in ignition-scale inertial confinement fusion targets.
Sean Regan,Reuben Epstein,B. A. Hammel,L. J. Suter,Howard A. Scott,M. A. Barrios,D. K. Bradley,Debra Callahan,C. J. Cerjan,Gilbert Collins,S. N. Dixit,Tilo Döppner,Melissa Edwards,David R. Farley,K. TL;DR: Mixing of plastic ablator material, doped with Cu and Ge dopants, deep into the hot spot of ignition-scale inertial confinement fusion implosions by hydrodynamic instabilities is diagnosed with x-ray spectroscopy on the National Ignition Facility.
Journal ArticleDOI
Charge-state distribution and Doppler effect in an expanding photoionized plasma.
Mark Foord,Robert Heeter,P. A. M. van Hoof,R. S. Thoe,James E. Bailey,M. E. Cuneo,Hyun-Kyung Chung,Duane A. Liedahl,K. B. Fournier,Gordon A. Chandler,Valdas Jonauskas,R. Kisielius,L. P. Mix,Catherine Ramsbottom,P. T. Springer,Francis P. Keenan,S. J. Rose,William H. Goldstein +17 more
TL;DR: First comparisons of the measured charge state distributions with x-ray photoionization models show reasonable agreement and line opacities are well fitted by a curve-of-growth analysis which includes the effects of velocity gradients in a one-dimensional expanding plasma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Review of the NLTE emissivities code comparison virtual workshop
TL;DR: In this article, the first "virtual workshop" designed to compare NLTE emissivities produced by widely differing types of atomic physics codes is presented, and a small set of significant results illustrate the progress that is still to be achieved.
Journal ArticleDOI
Temperature Determination Using K(alpha) Spectra from M-shell Ti Ions
Stephanie Hansen,A. Ya. Faenov,T. A. Pikuz,K. B. Fournier,Ronnie Shepherd,H. Chen,Klaus Widmann,Scott Wilks,Yuan Ping,Hyun-Kyung Chung,A. Niles,James R. Hunter,Gilliss Dyer,Todd Ditmire +13 more
TL;DR: The compact multipulse terawatt (COMET) laser facility at LLNL was used to irradiate Al-coated 2-50 microm Ti foils with laser pulses, creating Kalpha emission which has been measured using a focusing spectrometer with spatial resolution aimed at the back surface of the targets.
